Hurrican Dean- Jamaica & Cancun Brides- lets keep our fingers crossed

Recommended Posts

Well the last storm (2005) we too had plans for Riviera Maya and we couldnt go because the airport and hotels were closed. We planned to stay at the Riu palace. The Riu agreed to move us and we got detoured to Jamaica so we wouldnt lose our money and thats where we stayed at the Riu Ocho rios for the 1st time and chose that location for our wedding. Now we are just about 8 weeks away from leaving for our wedding. I really hope and pray that Jamaica gets spared the impact that Cancun got that year. I hope it moves out fast and gets out of there quickly and everyone stays safe.

Well we're thinking we're pretty much screwed.

We're scheduled to leave for Breezes Montego Bay this coming Friday. After being hit by a Cat 4....we're thinking there's not going to be much left of Jamaica.

I'm feeling pretty depressed big time. sad.gif I've been counting down forever and now less than a week before we're scheduled to leave...everything I've dreamt about and planned for....crushed.

Oh Nadine don't give up hope! It's easy for me to say because I know I would feel like you if it were my wedding, but it may not be as bad as we think. I guess we'll know for sure in a few days.

My friend just got to Jamaica last week for a 3 week stay with relatives and I think it will be those people that are affected the most, a big resort like Breezes will do their best to pull it off for you. Keep us posted grouphug.gif

Thank you so much for the positive words.

I'm trying my best to stay postive because like you said...we don't know what will happen yet.

The waiting is so hard.

I have some DIY things that need to be done....mainly the annoucements...but I can't finish them yet because I don't know if I'm going to have to reprint them...or what.

I will definietly keep yall posted. I didn't think I'd end up being a Hurricane Bride!

I am soooooooooooooooooooooo depressed..I am due to leave in a week and a half for Couples in Negril and it does not look good at this point..I have been tracking Dean for 2 days now and its getting worse by the hour..

I have been planning this for over a year and half and 1 week or so before we leave, Jamaica is set to hit the hardest..What will we do??

We are so looking forward to this long awaited trip?? It looks like Jamaica is a sure target and I dreamed of going there to get married..UGH...

The catch 22 that we are in is where else should we go? We are okay in the fact that its just the two of us, but gosh Jamaica had all our paperwork for getting married etc? We will wait until tomorrow to make any concrete decisions but we need some helps as to where else to go should it be destroyed?

Seeing as Dean is also heading to Mexico after Jamaica, we would not even consider that area..Any suggestions girls? I am so crushed right now..I also worry for all the Jamaican homeland people who will have their beautiful land destroyed~It is not even a matter of just the hurricane hitting but the country not even being able to run properly with water and electricity?

Anyway, any advice would be appreciated at this point as to where else we can go?

i think the only thing you can do at this point is pray that it misses...the news is known to exagerate so lets hope that is the case...

those getting married in a few months, if it does hit cancun, RM they have gotten alot better at getting the resorts up and running from the last big hurricane

Trista- Don't forget if you have to switch locations to a place where you don't have the legal stuff done, you can always do a legal ceremony in the states before you leave. I know it's probably not your ideal situation, but it's an option that may relieve some of the stress.

I also agree with what Tammy said. The news loves to exaggerate. They love to talk about the worst that can happen and once it hits they find the most damaged area to film. Remember the lady rowing around in a puddle? They always make it look much worse. My mom used to live in Corpus Christi, TX. She was in CA for the week & a hurricane hit corpus. The news said "Corpus Christi, TX has been wiped off the face of the earth." When she got home, everything was fine.

I'm not saying I think everything is OK, but it's likely not as bad as what they are showing. I think it helps to not watch the news if you want to stay calm.
