Help!!! Majestic Colonial

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

So, I am having a bit of a breakdown at this point and I am sincerely frustrated and do not know what to do.

I have been in contact with the Majestic since December of last year. I got my date, and for a bit there was a confusion as to reception costs etc...

Recently, the Majestic implented a flat rate of 500 per hour for rental of wet bar, sound system, open bar....

Since the beginning of this journey, I have told them I was bringing (or planning at least) 100 people. I was never told once that there was a cap on the 500 dollar flat rate. I checked my emails to make sure, and I was definitly never told.

I am now being told the price is 1000 for open bar and rental. Which means 2,500 for a two hour reception, along with the cost of my DJ which is 900  (DJ Mannia).

This is ridiculous to me as the only reason I was paying the 500 was for the convenience of my guests not having to walk to the bar, and being able to just enjoy the reception. Its bad enough I am paying for a full 4 hours from DJ Mannia and only getting 2 1/2 out of him...and now this? An increased rate of 1000 PER HOUR at a resort where my guests are ALREADY PAYING FOR ALL INCLUSIVE!!!!

Blegh.

Has anyone done anything else?

I am considering buying a bunch of alcohol and just hiring a bartender. Has anyone done this? How would I go about this?

I thought you pay for your wedding package based on the price/arrangements at time of booking, they can't just change things like that as they go along..that needs to be for the new brides only, not ones they have been working with for some time. It all depends on when these new arrangements were implemented. I would use that as my defense.

We reserved the Presidential Suite -- I am not sure if we will get the open bar for 3-4 hours, or buy alcohol and just get the bartender to serve it.  Not sure how open they would be to that, so we plan to figure it out when we get there...

I was originally going to have my reception at Majestic but felt like I was being ripped off with the constant changes in prices (where vendors here will typically quote you at time of booking and stick with the price). So in the end, I decided to have my reception at Jellyfish based on all the wonderful reviews and my correspondance has been nothing but positive with them as well. I have had a lot less stress since and am 100% happy with my decision.

Good luck and if I were you, I'd look into the Jellyfish restaurant.

I too was going with the Majestic and have moved over to the Jellyfish. I was so aggrevated and felt totally ripped off. At Jellyfish I know exactly what I am getting and how much I am paying for it. So relieved by their enthusiasm and involvement in our wedding. Very much not like the MC.

I have read great reviews about weddings at the JellyFish. I had looked into moving the wedding there but changed my mind as I like being close to my hotel room in case I need something. Plus we are only having 9 guests to our wedding (parents and siblings only) so we are just going to relax at the resort after the wedding dinner - listen to the resort band perform.
