Has anyone heard of Hummingbird Hall in Montego Bay?

Yes I am fearful of the cost but the venue is so beautiful and intimate...

We considered them at first but decided we wanted to go for a private villa for more flexibility. They are very happy to add and remove items from their standard package and I was so impressed by their customer service, I even asked Michelle if she could plan our villa wedding....she can't unfortunately but we are all sorted now :-)

Good luck!

Well I have not contacted them recently because I am currently trying to narrow down a resort for my groups accommodations and this has not been a fun process. I had my mind set on Iberostar Rose Hall Suites but have discovered that it is completely out of my group's budget so I am now thinking about staying at Iberostar Rose Hall Beach so we shall see....

I am visiting Jamaica this May and my plan is to hopefully be able to visit Hummingbird Hall in person. If we are able to negotiate a reasonable price and the venue is as great as it looks online then I will go with them, but if it's out of our budget or does not look as wonderful in person then I may just settle and get married at Iberostar.

I cannot believe how stressful this process has been and its so scary because I still have over a year to go!!!

So how are your plans coming along?

I know what you mean about hassle finding accomodation for guests! After weeks and weeks of looking into every option, we decided on a villa - valley high - valleyhighjamaica.com.

The trouble with resorts is that everyone has a diff budget and tastes and so not everyone will stay at the same place. This means that people will have to move about quite a bit in order to spend time with each other. Plus if you eat out or go on a day trip you are effectively paying twice if you have booked an all inc. resort (this is my logic anyway).

With private villas you get all the staff included and cooks to cook your food for you if required and can even get private massages in your room! This works out great for guests on a budget.

And as there are so many villas near each other, the ones that want a luxuy villa, can still get one and everyone can have breakfast/lunch/dinner together if they want to at eah other's villas.

My plans? stressful too! Nothing really solid apart from the villa our group will be staying in and the villa we are getting married in....and the date!

Hi Delgadot...I don't think so! :)

Our wedding is just over 6 months away and the ONLY things sorted are: Our photographer (phew) Marcia Roberts, our wedding villa venue and our guests' villa (well the one for my closest friends anyway).

No flowers, no caterer, no planner, no musicians, no bar, no minister.....and I have'nt even tried a dress on yet! I live in Bermuda and there is nothing here.

I think you win :)

It's a struggle but I am very excited nontheless. Very smart of you to start things early!

Wow 6 months to go!! I did start planning the minute we started talking about getting married LOL which is good in some aspects because I am so indecisive, but the wait is torture! Anyhow as far as music goes I hired Kevan Stewart for my DJ and MC. He has gotten great reviews and has been very professional so far with me. You should check him out. Have you considered hiring a wedding planner? Tropical Weddings gets really good reviews, I had contacted them and Almarie got right back to me within 1 hour! amazing! You can always send her an e-mail letting her know what you need/want and see what she quotes you...

It's a little annoying as if you compare Ja to say here in Bermuda (despite population 60,000) or UK (where I'm from), it is so much harder to source vendors!

I haven't contacted DJ Kevan as yet but it seems he is the only DJ out there...very highly rated though and I am sure we will end up contacting him.

I think it was Tropical Weddings that informed me that we needed to be american or cananadian...I am english, future hubby jamaican. Ridiculous thing to say but it is what it is! Not had too much luck in the wedding planning department. One planner we got in contact with at the start of our planning (Jan this year) gave us an incomplete quote of $28k when Itold her our budget was $12k!!!!!! Crazy crazy crazy. Now considering going out to Ja about 6 weeks before the wedding and staying there to work it out and do it ourselves! (we have our own business so can be flexible)

Who knew it would be this difficult? I am a big fan of programs such as who's wedding is it anyway and they make it look so easy!

Have you decided a venue yet? I guess you must have if you've got the DJ?

Well don't give up on wedding planners just yet I have two suggestions,Joanne from wedding belles Jamaica her e-mail address is [email protected] and Denise from events made easy her e-mail address is [email protected] I had contacted both of these women during my early stages of planning and they were very responsive I found them on the website called islandbrides.com

It is crazy how in the beginning I had thought doing a destination wedding would be less expensive and less stressful....oh was I so wrong.... I feel like the cost at the end will be very close to what we would have spent to have a wedding at home and its more stressful because your having to make crucial decisions through the Internet! Its like you almost have to plan a site visit to see things in person in order to avoid sleepless nights!

At this point I am just counting down the days until my site visit in May.I think destination weddings are definitely more for brides who don't need to have control that is so not me! I am so tired of just not knowing.

I do have the DJ already but no venue picked!!! I know I am crazy! I was originally set on Iberostar Rose Hall Suites and I read that the resort DJ sucked and I knew how important music was to the FI so I looked into Kevan and he was willing to give me a lower rate to book him now vs waiting 2 years so I booked him!!

So how many people are you expecting to come to Jamaica?
