Does anyone else have a secret stash of cash for the wedding?

Recommended Posts

I am just wondering if I am the only one!

One moment my fiance is worrying about the cost of the wedding and then the next he is telling me that I should have whatever I want.  We are saving money together for the wedding and we will have a decent amount when the time comes.  However, I know that when it gets close to the wedding and he realizes the different things I want to make the day special he will somehow be very surprised and it could start a fight.

For instance I will want a DJ, a dance floor, extra photography, and center pieces for the tables.  So you can see I am not talking about extravagant things - just normal wedding things.  However, he is a boy and just doesn't understand.

So I have started setting aside a bit of cash each month ($100) and have plans to put part of the money from my tax return and annual bonus into a fund so I can just say "don't worry about it, I got it covered".  Since my wedding is still 13 months away, I hope to have over $3K in my secret stash.

Are any other brides out there doing the same?  If so, what are you going to spend your stash on?

I dont really have a secret stash, but when I use my debit card I have my purchase rounded up to the 5.00 mark. so if I spend 2.00,  3.00 is put into my savings account.  I am in control of the budget, so its me that decides to add or take things away. FI is paying for the actual trip and I am paying for everything else, which is adding up. I think he has the better deal.

I think what you are doing is a great idea. Its amazing how things can add up and you want to be prepared for any unknown expenses

I wish I had a secret stash. I had money put away, but we bought a house last March and unfortunately had some things come up and the money needed to be spent. I was planning on getting a great photographer for 8 hours instead of the resort one for 3hrs, but I donâ€t have the money. :(

I think having a secret stash is a good idea. Because you are right sometimes boys just don't get it. I plan on having secret money too with which I buy some secret things. He'll appreciate it later but you don't always want to tell them the cost up front. This way you have some money to buy those extras.

I was planning on doing this but something came up to eat up the money! Both of our salaries go into a joint account and we pay all bills and have spending money from this account. Anything left over at the end of the month goes to pay off credit cards (still a fair amount on there from when we bought our house and had to buy all the furniture etc). I had been paying off my student overdraft at £200 a month and, now that's paid off, I had planned on continuing the £200 and putting it into an extra fund. Our main wedding fund is coming from our parents, but you never know when you might need a bit extra.

But our tenant moved out of FI's old house, so it's up for sale, so we're having to pay £300 mortgage and £100 council tax a month on an empty house sad.gif

I have a secret stash too! It's for things like extra flowers and extra hours with the photographer. My mum and dad have paid for the trip, my dress and will pay for the basic wedding package, FI is paying for pretty much everything else, his and the kids clothes, the rings etc.... so i don't want to take the piss!
