Same here. Having a solo guitarist for the ceremony (friend of the family), a mariachi band for the cocktail hour and then a dj for the reception.

But I would assume that it would travel and that your WC would be in charge of getting it to the right places.

either you have to rent 3 seperate sound systems- which means paying triple the price or they can move it from place to place- it takes about 15 min to move it and get it all set up. i was lucky that my wedding was at the gazebo and the cocktail hour was at el patio terace because these 2 places are really close together so we just turned the speakers and didnt have to set it up 3 times. we were supposed to have to to re-set it up at the recpetion space but they messed up and just used a whole other system- which i refused to pay for since it was not soemthing we had agreed upon. What about buying your own and bringing it (iPod docking station/speakers) ... and just renting speakers for the reception?

That's what we're doing b/c I think the system we get will be loud enough for the ceremony and cocktail hour ... it's just dance music at the reception we need really loud.

We also might have the mariachi band do the cocktail hour, which means we'd have the iPod docking/speaker station for ceremony and rent the big speakers for the reception only...

you know i just wasnt sure how to hook up our ipod dock and i didnt really want to mess with it- and since i knew for sure that their speakers worked perfect i just used them.

that being said- i think it depends on the number of guests you have. ask your WC- they may not mind setting up your own speakers but also be ready because if it is something they are not familiar with they may mess it up- not to scare you- just think about it

I agree, I just bought one on ebay (the one recommended here) and just bring it with you..Although I love the docking station, I HATE my Ipod, it seriously gives me so much aggrevation, at least in trying to transfer music to it that out of frustration, I have bought a chord that will allow me to hook my mp3 player directly into the IPOD docking station (speakers)..

They are not super expensive and it would not be money spent just for the day but a docking station you would always have for the beach or where-ever? Just a thought~

We wouldn't need help setting up our speakers for the ceremony, etc, b/c the docking stations come with built-in speakers that will be adequate. So, we'd only need speakers (resort speakers) for the reception. Everything else will work self-contained through the docking station's own speakers ... so very portable and no set-up required. :-)

Thats one of my questions for Marianna too because we will have DJ Ron for the ceremony at the gazebo and the reception at the Oceana Terrace. I'm worried most of all that he is not aware that he will have to set up twice! maybe I will e-mail him to make sure, but I'll wait and ask Marianna first.
