Iberostar Rose Hall Suites vs. Gran Bahia Principe Jamaica? Need help please!! :)

Recommended Posts

My FI and I were originally going to go the Gran Bahia Principe, but after reading some reviews on tripadvisor, we decided against it. We chose IRHS as it was the #2 hotel in Montego Bay, and it was close to the airport (bus ride is only 20 mins). I have heard great things about the Gran Bahia, but if it is having families at the wedding that concerns you, the guests can stay at Iberostar Rose Hall Beach which is family friendly also (and a little less expensive than the Suites). We made our decision because IRHS has something for all of our guests in terms of entertainment and relaxation... plus I went to an Iberostar in Mexico, and it was absolutely stunning and a lot of fun.

I definitely recommend GBP!!! I was totally settled on IRHS too but they were way to expensive and after looking into it more and reading reviews I didn't get a super fun resort feel from them, it sort of felt more like a conference center lol..thats when I started looking into GBP and loved it!   The gazebo is what really hooked me, its fabulous and away from naked ppl!!  A few extra details about weddings at the resort: They do 1 to 2 weddings per day, but most brides have said they don't even see that many when they are there. You can rent out the wedding gazebo for $500 from 8:30to 10:30pm, including a DJ for your receptin which is super awesome. However, you have to pay $15p/p/hour for a bar to be setup down there. According to other brides the closest bar is well..not close. So its worth the money for the bar setup. If you want a private dinner it is $2500. I'm not sure of the hours but if you want to have your reception at one of the restaurants instead of the gazebo, that is an option. The dinner included in the package is pretty private though, they set you up in one portion of the restaurant and section it off (or so I've read) so its not just in the middle of the restaurant with the other guests watching you. Also, GBP does not charge a fee for bringing outside vendors in, so you can bring your own photographer, florist...whatever at no extra charge (Sandals and other resorts charge big time for bringing outside vendors).

And definitely ignore the trip advisor reviews! If you read any of the reviews from other brides that got married there you'll realize that the trip advisor reviews are a little ridiculous. There are some great reviews from brides in the GBP threads, def check them out.

I originally looked into the resort bc of the wedding gazebo but fortunately it is super affordable, compared to similar resorts in Jamiaca. So I totally recommend it! It'll be great to have another GBP bride on the forum :) Good luck choosing!

Hi MrsGreene:

We too are heavily considering the IRHS for our June 2011 wedding. Can you also please send me the wedding package information to [email protected]Apologies in advance if you have been bombarded for this information. It would be so much easier if Iberostar posted this information on their website.

Thank you so much for sharing all of the knowledge you've gained thus far in the process. It is VERY appreciated!

I was torn between these exact same 2 hotels too! We chose the GBP because of the lower all inclusive rate and cheaper wedding package. It was more affordable for our guests. But I have learned so much about the hotel, from other brides who have gotten married there, and I know we have made the right decision. Less than 5 months to go! Cant wait!!

If you give me your email I can send you their wedding package info. I don't know much about Gran Bahia Principe Jamaica, but there so many great reviews on here I'm pretty sure you can find great info on both hotels. Just search the names in the forums and you can find a lot of info.
