wow it looks you have many options. Very cool and affordable places are Cartagena in colombia, Antigua in Guatemala, Punta Cana in dominican republic and Puerto Rico in the US. You should contact a TA who can help you narrow down your search.  I'm getting married at Dreams La Romana in May 2011.  I chose that resort for several reasons one it is family friendly- I have a 10 year old sister who will be in the wedding.  The second was air fare I looked at flight from our local airport and compared them to other locations (price, stops) and third I looked at what the resorts had to offer(Beach, wedding packages, rooms, etc.)  Once you know what you want in a resort relay that information to your TA.  Also don't worry about the length of stay for guests as some might be there for 3 nights while others 7 nights.  Happy planning

Well, I finally got my FI to agree on either the Dominican Republic or Aruba. We're looking at Dreams Punta Cana and Renaissance Aruba Resort and Casino. I really like them both. I'm just waiting on prices from our TA for Renaissance, which is where he wants to go. Our TA said Aruba is usually way more expensive, but I guess we'll see when she gets back to us. Wish me luck!

Welcome to the forum!!! The time of year you are planning most likely isn't helping your price point either!! Have you tried discussing changing the date??

Changing the date is not really an option. My FI works out of town the majority of the summer and cannot get off work for an extended amount of time except for December and January. December 2, our weddig date is before peak time starts for the Caribbean, so it shouldn't be much more expensive. I just have expensive taste i guess.

Hi all! I'm a newbie- engaged last week! Getting overwhelmed with the whole idea of planning a destination wedding but I'm pretty set on it.  Any suggestions on how to find a good TA? I live in NYC

Welcome to the forum!  We were in the same sort of predicament, but knew we wanted a Mexico wedding.  Although it would have been nice to go to another one of the places you mentioned, we figured Mexico would have been most cost effective for our guests.

hi we're in same boat really i wanted dominican repulic but FI didn't We've finally decided on Mexico but now to choose a resort suitable for us for wedding honeymoon etc and for guest and children!! FI doesn't really have much input but i do try to get him involved!! hope it all works out!! xx
