Customs help for Mexico: Should we take it in or ship with a broker?

Hi All,

We are getting married at esperanza in Cabo, October 5, 2010. The coordinator at the hotel has been fantastic and she suggested that we ship all of our favors and wedding related items through a broker who could repackage everything for us and get it in safely and with minimal taxes and fees.

This being said, we would only want to ship the things we HAD to or that were to big to bring in through the airport. So can anyone help us, how has your customs experience been?

For the small things we might bring in with us it would be this:

(paper flowers (about 30 of them)

ornaments( about 25 of them)

wedding favor boxes and favors (about 25 of them)

A handmade set of wedding forks for fiancee and I

moss table numbers

accessories and gifts for the bridal party (about 12 gifts)

That being said, do you think these things would be better shipped? They are so light weight and can be boxed up so small that it should not be an issue as far as price of shipping, but I'm still just wondering  if anything would be taken away in customs?

Also we got it approved to send in some faux HUGE manzanita trees with stands for the centerpieces instead of having them made so we could send them back to us when the wedding is over. So we will be shipping those to the resort as well as the crystal strands and the hanging votive candles.

Being we have to ship these anyway... do you think anything above would be taken away in customs so we should just ship it anyway?

Has anyone shipped anything through a broker before to Cabo?

Thanks for all your help!!

if you can carry them it is usually better to bring them with you...shipping through a broker, even if the items are light will be costly and you always risk them not getting to your wedding in time.

i have heard so many stories of the wedding items, flowers, decorations, not making it.
