Hello Everyone,

I am also considering have a wedding at the Iberostar properties (I am narrowing down my resorts and it is one of my last few choices). I like the idea of having a wedding at the Grand but it is super expensive compared to other resorts! I emailed Reyna and have got the prices however, the pictures she sent me with the packages are not very good. I was wondering if anyone has any pictures of a wedding at the Grand? Pictures really help you get an idea of what the wedding would look like and I have searched the web for hours but hardly come up with anything. We are considering a wedding on the beach or a private reception in one of the restaurants. Can anyone help me out with pictures at the Grand? I am also looking at the Lindo for a beach wedding and reception. Does anyone have pictures of this?

Thanks!

Your guests will be able to eat wherever they want.  There are like 6 or 8 specialty restaurants that the del mar & beach share and you can walk around other properties..it's just lindo people won't be getting drinks or having dinners with beach/del mar people.  You have separate wrist bands-one color for del mar/beach and one for lindo/maya.  The 2 times I've been there, I have stayed at the beach & Del Mar and loved it.  $200 per person adds to $400 per couple..it's a lot more for I don't know what.  We went over there to check it out & my hubby and I even said we were happy we stayed at the Del Mar.  You share all other facilities on the property-i.e. Disco, shopping center, etc.  Anyone staying in any of the Iberostars has access to those places-the spa & gym as well.  We stayed in building 10 and we were ON the beach.  And the rooms aren't any closer to the beach at the lindo.  You have a great huge pool with a lazy river at the Del Mar and 3 or 4 swim up bars...everyone loved the place.  I promise no one would feel limited there because you have access to everything & they have their own restaurants/bars.

As for the photographer-everything I've seen that the place they have a contract with does is never something I'd want.  VERY cheesy.  Worth spending the extra $$ for your own person.  Or do what we did.  Fly a friend who is a professional photographer there-pay for his flight & all expenses in return for the photography & rights to all photos!  Worth every cent!! :)

PS-you can never ask too many questions...that's what we're all here for!

Thanks so much your response it truly helps a lot!!

We are going to see what price our TA comes back with for the del mar.

My fiance and i are going with the "mac daddy" package.;I know they say in the package it includes live music but...we have our own songs we want played. Do they have speakers and something to play an ipod or cd for the ceremony? Also do they set up mics when doing vows?

I unfortunately do not have anyone we know that is a experienced photographer other than my fiances mom. We don't want to put the pressure on her so we decided to go with someone else. 500 is outrageous for an outside photographer in my opinion.! I heard from a friend that the hotels photographers are generally inexperienced and could be your bartender or pool boy. So still unsure what to do.....i guess i have time though ;)

I have read all the posts on the iberostar site and it makes me SUPER pumped for the big day. How large is the resort? Is it really as much walking as everyone makes it out to be?

Erin...oh my goodness i cannot believe the story of your grooms man. That is horrible!!He must be a trooper to still stand in the wedding.  I am a nurse and have seen a few facial fractures and my goodness they usually bruise and swell horribly..Poor guy!!

I was wondering erin if its possible if i could take a look at your pics from the wedding? Do you have a link somewhere or could you PM me? I would really appreciate it!

You still have lots of time so be prepared that the price you're going to be given right now by your TA is going to be really high! We were shocked when we got our first quote..... our TA suggested that we wait till we get closer to the date and then get another quote as they always start out very high and then generally go down as it gets closer. We ended up booking our group rate in late Oct for our April wedding and that was the best timing cuz we got a really good price and we also had the option of a one time price adjustment if the price went down between then and the final payment due date (which was in early Feb). We actually just found out last week that the Beach and Del Mar are completely sold out for the week that we are going so those people who were waiting to book last minute to get a better price must now either book at the Lindo/Maya or not come! And the Lindo/Maya are going for a good $300-400 more per person than what we paid!!

We decided to pay the peanlty to bring in an external photographer because I didn't really care for the work of the resort photographers. We also hired DJ Doremixx (who Erin also used and loved) and he is very highly regarded by everyone who has used him so we are excited that we went with him. We didn't book the "mac daddy" package, we went with the symbolic ceremoney on the beach and we are also doing the private reception at the open air restaurant.

It's getting so close now.... just finalizing the last details and before you know it we're going to be on the plane! I would be happy to share some of our photos after we get back if you are interested.

I know Tara did stay at the Lindo and they also let her have her reception at the Del Mar!  (not me though..boo)  Anyways..I am going to email the link to the hotel photographer with some of his work and his price list....there IS a $500 charge to bring in an outside photographer, and although one of the girls got away with not paying it, they are now telling me that they will charge that fee to the credit card on file for my room so I dont think there is any way around it now ;(

My reception is at the restaurant at the Lindo - so let me know if you end up changing and I can send you tons of pics.....Erin and Tara have gorgeous pics of their weddings at the Del Mar!  For pics of the resort, tripadvisor always has good pics!

I also stayed at the Tucan last November - I believe the beaches are very similar.....and the weather will determine how rough the ocean is....

Erin is the best person to answer your ??s about feeling limited by staying at the Del Mar so I will leave that up to her ;)  But I chose the Lindo based on the same feeling you are asking about ;)

There are so many great ideas for goodie bags, thank you gifts, attire, brochures, and everything on here!  Welcome!!  And ask away....I would never feel so confident about my big day if it werent for these girls!!!

Hi Hannah!

Yes it is JUST around the corner! We leave in 19 days and the wedding is in 23 days! I still can't believe how fast the time has gone by. Karla was away on vacation for a couple of weeks so I am now in the process of finalizing all of the last details with her. The only things that we have left to do are: finish the playlist for the dj, make place cards & seating chart, finalize a couple of details with the photographer, buy a shirt for FI and maybe a couple more clothing items for myself. I had my shower this past weekend and that was great, my friend did an amazing job! She even took a picture of what my bouquet is going to look like and she had flower arrangements made for the shower just like it.... they were beautiful and very thoughtful! My bachelorette party is this upcoming Saturday (I think.... they are really keepng me in the dark about it) and that is about it.

I received the starfish from Erin.... it's very cute and sparkly! Can't wait to pass it on to you! Do you want me to leave it at the resort with your wedding coordinator or would you rather I mailed it to you?

My question is We are staying at the Lindo....I am going to put in a request for our guests to stay at a certain building. Can someone PLEASE give me some recommedations on the best building to stay at? Its prob best to stay as close to the beach. I thought i had read before on this thread of a great building to stay at but when skimming through i couldnt find it.

Hi Girls,

I have been MIA for a while, but I just spent an hour catching up!

Erin,

Congrats on becoming a Mrs. I was only able to see the two pictures that you posted in this forum, and you looked absolutely beautiful. I would love to see some more pictures, if you are willing to share cheesy.gif.  BTW, itâ€s so crazy about the best man. I have to say that has to be the shocking story that I have ever heard of. Things like that should only happen in movies, not a few days before your wedding. I donâ€t know what I would have done, if I were in your place. I probably would have had a breakdown. But I am glad to hear that your “perfect day†was perfect and everything worked out in the end.

My wedding is fast approaching; I can't believe that itâ€s less than 3 months away. I am getting married at Lindo on June 11, 2011. I am having the ceremony at the Kiosk Gazebo and a beach reception.

As I read in some of the previous posts, I too can relate to the frustration of friends and family backing out of the wedding. As someone mentioned, people donâ€t realize how they may hurt your feelings. When we initially started to plan our DW, we were realistic and knew that not everyone that we invited would attend. However, some of the No's that we got truly shocked us, well at least ME. First, I found out that my Matron of Honor was not going to be a part of the wedding nor was she attending. And the best part is that I had to get that out of her, because she was waiting to tell me. Thus, I had to ask someone else in my bridal party to now be my Maid of Honor. So as most of you can imagine, it was a pretty crappy situation to be in. Because it now seems that that other person is my “second†choice. Nevertheless, my sister accepted the duty and really didnâ€t give me any crap about being my “second†choice. Then I found out that most of my family (aunt, uncle, and all of my cousins) are not going to be able to make it to the wedding. Each and every excuse seemed to be more ridiculous than the previous one. I should mention that when we started the planning process, everyone was on board, but when it was time for the deposit, the suddenly realized that they cannot attend. It is so frustrating!!!hissyfit.gif

With the help of my Amazing Fiancé, I decided that I will not let this get me down. I came to a realization that this is about him and I. So if those people do not want to be a part of our “special day†then itâ€s their loss. We will be happy to have our closest friends and those family members who actually want to celebrate with us. With that said we have 24 people (including us) who will be there with us dancing the night away.

Sorry about this long post, its been a while. I guess this was building up for a while.

I look forward to catching up!

~Olga~
