Karla sent me a pic of the open air Italian restaurant (not sure if it's called El Faro or not). I would send it to you but have no idea how :( Anyway, you could email Karla and ask her to send it to you too. I am getting married April 6, 2011 and I too am getting worried about the hotel being sold out. The travel agents have put it in my head that if we have a large group we must book as soon as possible or risk things being sold out. The problem is that the packages are so expensive right now that people are not going to want to pay that price. Oh the joys of wedding planning! I though destination weddings were supposed to be easy:)

Hi Hanna,

 

Yes, I believe Don Alfredo and El Faro are one in the same. I think it switched from the Italian and is now the tropical restaurant called El Faro. I will email Karla and ask for photos.

 

I was a little worried about switching to Mar/Beach because I had developed a great relationship with the Lindo's WC's, Lily and Mayra after meeting with them, but Karla has been great thus far, very quick to answer emails.

 

Question to all, what us your time schedule for ceremony, cocktail hr and reception? I am concerned abt having enough daylight after the ceremony for pictures but also don't want to have a huge gap in time between ceremony and ceremony.

 

Also for those having a cocktail hr, where r u having it? I am torn between the shopping center gazebo area which is right outside the chapel where my ceremony will be or shuttling everyone to the reception venue and doing cocktail hr there. The shopping ctr area is so pretty but I can imagine a bunch of our drunk guests trying to make their way all the way to the reception (it's pretty far) in the dark bwahaha!!

i'm getting married at iberostar lindo on january 16, 2011 - we just booked about a month ago so it's going to be an interesting planning process!  i'm so in need of advice from other lindo/maya brides who have been planning for a while, and you girls seem on the ball.  i would love to get married on the beach, but the space looked pretty cramped when we checked it out.  i loved the gazebo itself in the shopping center, but i couldn't wrap my head around getting married in that setting.  any suggestions?  and does anyone know if there's a way to have cocktail hour on the beach? 

 

as for the reception, we have the jambalaya restaurant reserved for a private reception.  i honestly didn't see many options at all when we were there last month (we were in such a rush and also had to see other resorts the same day) but it looked pretty, so we went with it.  ideally, i would love for the reception to be held in an open-air space, but from what i gather, that doesn't exist at the lindo/maya. then again, i didn't see any reception sites at the maya - does anyone have advice/pictures?

 

i understand that the weather is supposed to be gorgeous in january with low humidity.  i'm thinking that the air will be pretty crisp at night, so an indoor reception would probably be more comfortable for everyone.  our ceremony is at 5:00, which i hope won't be too late (in terms of daylight).

 

i'm totally all over the place - sorry about that!  i'm sure as soon as the ceremony/cocktail/reception sites are finalized, things will get much easier.  and i hear everyone on the travel arrangements being another stressor!  don't know what we'd do without our travel agent!

Hi,

 

Our ceremony time is at 5pm and we are not doing a cocktail hour. We get the restaurant from 6:30-10:30pm and I am thinking that it will probably be about 7 by the time we get in there due to pictures after the ceremony. The ceremony is fairly short (less than 30 mins) so that would give us 1.5 hours for pictures which I think will be fine. When we were deciding on the time for our ceremony, I used this site http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/astronomy.html?n=923 to see what time the sunset would be on our wedding day. You can check it out for your date as well and it may help you to make up your mind. Since we're getting married in April, the sun won't set until about 7 so we will even be able to get a few sunset shots in the mix. Hope that helps.

Hi there-

 

Other than the beach and gazebo, the chapel located in the shopping center is the only other ceremony site.

 

Your reception choices at the Lindo are Jambalaya, which is a smaller indoor restaurant, or if you have more than 60-70 ppl, you can rent out El Tapatio, which is located by the pool and has a semi-open air feel to it since it has lots of windows and is off the pool.  That's as close as you can get to open air at the Lindo.  There are two outdoor options, the shopping center gazebo area and the beach, but it has to be a buffet style dinner.  The buffet menu was not to our liking personally.  And like you said, it can get a bit chilly at night in Jan.

 

I'm January 22nd, one week after you!  The sun sets around 5:30. (Check out the link that Hannah posted above.)  

 

Our itinerary is 3:00-4:00 catholic ceremony at the chapel,  4:00-4:15 champagne toast, pictures with family in church, 4:30-5:30 pictures with bridal party/parents on beach, pics of B&G at beach & various spots throughout resort, 5:30 cocktail hr, 6:30 reception starts.

 

Hope that helps.  I had originally planned on doing our ceremony much later like you, but it was important to me that we have enough daylight for pictures afterwards without feeling panicked and rushed.

It is now the Italian restaurant which was the tropical restaurant. Although I did notice that nothing they serve is Italian food...weird?? I am having my ceremony on the beach so we are having the cocktail hr. at the reception venue. There are little tables outside the venue for people to sit at. I agree it might be a little difficult getting your drunk guests from the shopping center to the reception venue. It's a long walk and the shuttle doesn't come as frequently. That way too it gives your guests ample time to make their way to the reception venue before the reception starts.

I've noticed that the restaurants do seem to change a lot.  That is funny that there's nothing italian on the menu.  The resort has its little quirks.

 

Totally off topic, but anyone notice that the strawberry margaritas are a bit odd there?!  First off, they're pepto bismol pink and they just taste really syrup-y, like fake strawberry.  Not very good.  A minor detail for sure, but i go to Mexico lookin for a damn good authentic margarita! LOL  

 

Our ceremony will end about 4 so guests will have an hour and a half to kill before cocktail hour.  We figure they can choose to go back to their rooms and freshen up or hit up one of the bars.  That's the beauty of an all-inclusive. you really don't have to entertain your guests every moment :)

Ooh Pitt just noticed you're doing the beach ceremony -- it'll be beautiful, I'm jealous!  My FI's family is ultra-traditional and their one request was that we get married in the church.  But at least we'll have lots of beautiful pics on the beach right!  are you going to do those cool raffia fans for your programs?  I think those are so cute (and functional) for a beach wedding!

I am also planning to get married at Iberostar Paraiso Maya. We are planning to get married late May, early June 2011. I just recently picked my location, so let the planning begin. I am going to get in contact with Reyna (as instructed by my travel agent). I was wondering if you could give any advice or share any information that you have acquired so far.
