thank you!! My FI is Dominican and I speak fluent spanish and we were just laughing cause we don't know half of the foods.. lol  I'll have to ask my mother in law.. Did she happen to mention what time you can have the cocktail hour? My ceremony is at 2 I'm still trying to get over it.. I just hate such a big gap cause I believe dinner is at 6

Welcome!! My FI is Dominican as well She did not mention the time for cocktail hour, she just mentioned that if I choose Hemingway's, it opens at 5pm. My ceremony is for 4pm, hoping that is a good time. I'm realizing that all the restaurant choices we have (la Uva, Arrecife, and Bohio) seem to be open air restaurants, I wonder how hot will it be?? yikes

I'm so jealous I wanted my ceremony at 4. We'll be in the dead of heat for our photos..lol   You might make out with the timing cause the sun will be setting around dinner time and cool off a bit.. I might buy all my guests those hand held fans.  everyone will probably be drunk by dinner and not notice the heat  = ) What's your wedding date?

-  By cocktail hour, do you mean you just want some wine or champagne right after your ceremony at the gazebo/beach? If so, it's included already in your wedding package for you and your guests (I think they limit the amount though so the amount of champagne may not last an hour, lol). If you want a full cocktail reception/open bar either before or after the reception, it is $12 per person for 3 hours and is full bar service (so whatever kind of drinks alcohol you like incluyding mixed drinks) and  the wait staff. You can combine this with the beach party.

 

- For a private reception, your options are La Uva or El Bohio only. You need minimum 20 people. For a semi-private, you can have any of the restaurants (even the buffet). Both La Uva and El Bohio are on the beach and both have an open air section. Semi-private means they section a few tables off in one area of the restaurant (usually off to the side) for you and your guests with decorations, etc...but you're next to the guests dining so it's not private. If you want your reception (ie: dance and whatnot) at the restaurant, you have to rent the private restaurant...you cannot dance, play your own music, etc. at a semi-private restaurant...having said that, you might be able to get away with it a little bit but you can't count on it. If you wanna run the show and do your own thing, go private (that's what I'm doing, lol). Of course, it's $1000 to rent the restaurant privately but you get it all evening, for as long as you want...this way you don't have to move everyone to the beach later if you don't want to. If you go this route, you can also have the DJ set up in the restaurant (if you want one) and have the open bar there too (again, it's $12/person for 3 hours). For either a semi or private dinner you get wine, soft drinks, juice, and beer included in the dinner for your guests. I have the menu options somewhere too...I can pass those on once I find them.

what does everyone recommend (or what to avoid) for dinner?  and we don't have to decide until we get there right? does everyone get the same thing or will they make an exception if someone is vegetarian or doesn't eat red meat?
