We're just going to have a cook-out at our house with both sides family and close friends. Simple and casual.

we won't be doing anything at home. The purpose for us to do a destination wedding was to keep the cost down and frankly...we only have a handful of really great friends and if we did something at home...it would turn into...us having to invite our extended relatives. coworkers, etc..people we don't really see much or know well. We didn;t want that. Now, what we MIGHT do...is have a casual bbq at home...I'm talking casual...hamburgers/hotdogs in my backyard...with booz...for some folks...or to thank those who did make the trip with us that live in our area. but honestly...the home reception is not something we are considering at all.

We're not having a dinner but a "viewing party" once we get our pro pics and video so everyone has the chance to feel like a part of our day. We'll probably do it at our place, put our pics and video on a projector and serve appetizers. We're going to keep as simple (and cheap) as can be.

We are doing an ATR, simply because we love to celebrate and who doesnt like to party? We have invited 100 people to both events, those that can attend our DW GREAT! those that cant no worries because we will celebrate when we get home A lot of my family, grandparents and great friends are unable to attend. our ahr is going to have sit down tables, with interactive food stations, open bar and a band to party the night away. At the beginning of our reception we will show a video of us saying our vows and then be introduced!

a lot of the people i invited asked if i was doing an ahr and were pleased when they found out we were.... I guess its up to you and your FI,for us it is perfect and were so excited about both our trip AND AHR

Initally we planned on having an AHR, but.... we are spending a LOT more money than originally planned, so there is no budget left for the AHR. I'm not worried about it though, more people are comming to the DW than we originally thought so we spending our extra cash on a private reception.

Would like to have one. Considering our DW is going to be small and intimate we would like to celebrate with family and friends when we return home. Granted we are in the beginning stages of wedding planning so we'll see

We are doing an At Home Party (not reception). The cost of having a full sit-down meal would be too much. We have found a banquet hall to rent on a Friday night for $700 (compared to $2400 for Saturday). One great thing about this place is that you bring your own alcohol and just have to pay for a liscensed bar tender, which will save us a ton of money.

So our plan is to have the party from 8pm to midnight with free beer & wine (and we will make sure there is no chance of running out), hors d'ouevres only (thus why we are starting at 8pm instead of 7pm), cupcake tower, slideshow including wedding pictures, and music for dancing. We have to decide whether we will have a DJ or a ipod hooked up to their sound system. In total we will likely spend between $2500 and $3500. Spending up to say $8000 for a full reception was just not in the budget....

I personally like the idea of a big BBQ to keep costs down, but we are getting married in November so not a good option for us.

We're pretty much doing the same thing you are Tessab. We've invited 150 people (praying that no more than that come!). But I have the same mindset as you. I really want to celebrate with everyone, so it's working out pretty well. I've even rented a photobooth for the reception! It kind of feels like I get the best of both worlds, and I'm excited about it!
