Gran Porto Real Brides - Post here!!

I think it is because it doesn't say anything about that in the list of packages available. Best thing would be to check with your planner. Who are you dealing with btw? Or have you not contacted them yet?

The price for the upgrade I feel is quite steep when you think you're not getting anything extra, you're just being moved to a different location. I'd rather keep my $15 per head and take them out and buy $15 worth of alcohol for each of them.x

Yes, I will check with my TA. I haven't contacted the WC at Porto yet. I'm trying to do all my research before I confirm the date & place. I don't like making big decisions, I'm always afraid that I will change my mind later or find something better :S

You're right but compared to a lot of other resorts $15 to upgrade is cheap, some charge $30-40pp. The private reception is 3 hrs instead of 1.5 for the semi-private (someone correct me if I got this wrong). Alcohol is free anyway (at the resort) :) Of course, if it was free that would be the best scenario :)

Oh true, I didn't realise it was 3 hours. 1.5 hours isn't a very long time at all if you're going to be doing speaches etc. :/ ..I know alcohol is free at the resort, but it is nice to get out of the hotel now and again when you're there for two weeks. I tend to get cabin fever if Im stuck in the same place for too long x

I'm glad to see a thread for the GPR resort.  :)  I've learned so much from this site about The Royal (so helpful!) but hadn't heard as much about GPR....  I'm getting married there on February 26, 2011 and I can NOT wait!!!

Dilara - You mentioned that you've been working with a Wedding Coordinator from the GPR.  Would you mind sending me her email address?  I would really appreciate it as I've only been working with a Real Resorts WC who is based in the US and I have a few questions that I'd rather ask someone who is onsite.  Thanks!  :)

Yes!! That is one of the reasons I (think I will) choose Gran Porto, because I'm sure my guests want to see more than the resort. Also, since the reception is kind of short and the bars might not be open all night we will probably move the party to one of the bars or clubs in PDC.

Most resorts that I've contacted won't allow you to do speeches (with a mike) or even play music at the semi-private receptions because they are typically held in one of the resort's restaurants in an area that has been sectioned off. And they don't allow you to stay longer than 1.5 hours...

For us, opting to upgrade to a private reception for $15 per person is worth it - you get 3 hours of food and alcohool, a dance floor, time for speeches, etc. Then, because it's over so quickly, you can just head out to one of the clubs in Playa and dance the night away. :)

That's exactly how I feel about it. I am still researching other resorts but keep coming back to Gran Porto, you get so much more for your money there.

Ahh, I was wondering how the whole music and dancing thing was going to work. Speeches would be okay cos there's going to be less than 20 of us so wouldn't need a mike.

It's a tough one, because whilst I would want a dancefloor etc. 3 hours isn't long enough to eat and utilize the dancefloor. But then if you don't have the dancefloor and music you don't get to have a 1st dance..hmmm... I think for me it would be a case of having a look at the reception venues when I get there and make my mind up whilst Im there. x
