Gran Porto Real Brides - Post here!!

Recommended Posts

I know that there is one package that includes a 3 hr private reception, but not sure where it would be held. The beach looks lovely, but I think I would want at least a roof...nor sure though. Have to ask my TA whenever she gets back to me.... Let me know if you find out before I do.

ah okay, I thought so. The ballroom may be a better option for you then? Thinking about it I think Id prefer that myself. Knowing what my mum is like she'll be trying to make all our party whisper as soon as the sun goes down as not to disturb any one in their hotel rooms lol.x

Haha! My mom is the same way :) Yeah, I never thought I'd want a ballroom for the reception since it is a DW, but I'm actually starting to like the idea. My FH wants us to do the slide show with baby pictures and that won't work outdoors. I guess since everyone gets to enjoy the beach and outdoors every day during the stay it would be okay to have the reception in the ballroom.

Hi!  I am new to this website and it is awesome!!!  I got engaged about 3 weeks ago and we have starting looking into destination weddings in the Riviera Maya area.

I contacted Beach Bum Vacations and one of the coordinators there recommended the Gran Porto Real!

I am so glad I found this website and can read up on it!

I like the ballroom idea for a the reception part as well.  I don't want everyone to get sick of being at the beach!

I'm thinking about a November 2011 wedding there.  So far away! rolleyes.gif

What WC's are you working with?

Can't wait to hear and see more from y'alls weddings!

Yeah, theme...hmm...don't have one yet haha! But it might be easier to decorate and keep everyone together than on the beach.

Hi and welcome Heidi! My TA is from Beach Bum Vacations too, her name is Melissa. She is really helpful! Who do you have?

Do you know if November is considered low-season with lower prices? My fiance mentioned last night that since we haven't sent out any STDs or anything yet, maybe we should look into next fall if it is cheaper than April-May next year.

I really have to do next fall because I'm already in two destinations this year (one in October, one in December) and I'm another wedding in June in TX.  I have to give my friends (and myself!) time to save up money for *another!* destination wedding and I don't want to jam pack all of our schedules.

Have you annouced that you are having a DW to your family / friends via conversations, emails or anything?  How many bridesmaids are you thinking about?

I am getting worried about announcing it!  Gulp!

I'm in Texas too :) We haven't sent out our STDs or anything but I have emailed a few of my friends in Sweden and told my family. There are different reactions, most people are excited but some are worried that they won't be able to afford it. My situation is complicated as it is, since I'm from Sweden and all my friends and family are over there while my FH is from Texas and most of his friends live here. So either way people would have to travel and we figured it would be more fun for the people traveling far to go to the beach than to Texas ;) Swedes have more vacation (min 5 weeks/year) so we thought it would be easier for them to travel far. Anyway, FH has only told his mom and a few friends I think, and I'm afraid that his family are the ones who will have more to say about this.

I'm not sure about bridesmaids, it is more of an American tradition than a Swedish even though it is becoming more popular over there now too. I want to have my sister as MOH and maybe that will be enough. Not sure about FSILs and if they would be offended if I don't ask them, we're not very close. I guess it depends on how many GM my FH will have.... Have you decided how many you will have?

Thanks for starting this thread! I'm getting married at the GPR on November 26, 2010 (we'll be there Nov 21-28)

I've opted to have a private reception on the beach, I figured since we're having a DW I don't want to be cooped up in a ballroom for the reception. Besides, it's only for 3 hours! The wedding planner I'm dealing with at the resort is Denisse and she's fantastic! Very helpful and returns all my emails promptly. We're currently trying to figure out how to go about stringing paper lanterns above our beachfront reception venue.
