I am very excited. We found a big house on the beach we are renting for the week that our whole group can stay at. I am so relieved to have made that decision. I know there are still so many more but I can at least breath easy for the next week or so.
thewave.gif Congrats!!!, choosing a location is one the most hard parts on planning a destination wedding., and I'm glad my images helped you in the process!...

Casa Mimosa is beautiful!!!..

Something someone said really stuck out to me...the fact that it could be hard transporting things from Cancun to Isla? What do you think?
Also, JenVH, have you decided to have your wedding there?
Anything anyone can share would be great. We also were thinking of Cozumel.
Thanks!

Jordan,

The best thing to do in isla is enjoying the water activities... the blue crystal clear ocean is breathtaking... (I haven't seen water like that in all the other caribbean places that I've been)

So.. here are a couple of recomendations:

1.- SNORKELING Use the "cooperativa" guys (The ones that will offer the services at the dock when you get to the island). This is the "local" way to go... they have this little boats for 8 people approx.. they will take you to snorkel AND they will also take you to a beach, where they will cook the most delicious grill fish ever!... so yummi...., this "tour" will take approx 3-4 hours, and depending on the time of the year it will cost you 20-25 bucks per person...

2.FISHING! (If you like to do this... I will dig in my contact information to find the cel phone from a guy that will take you to fish... AND to snorkel in another awesome reef)

3.-RIDE THE ISLAND - The island is tiny, and it's fun to drive around, you can rent from a bicycle, a scooter or a golf cart..., the South of the island has at the very end a "clif" area, a must place to go and take some photos ..., they have a pathway to walk, it's very pretty...

4.- FOOD- Casa OZ... Best restaurant on the island..."Must to visit".... is on the south side... I'm sure any one at the island can give you directions on how to get there.
And, downtown is full of little restaurants to find all kinds of food.. mexican, seafood, italian.. even arabian..

The island is a place to enjoy the ocean and relax... there's not much "party" going on at night... in downtown there are some bars, but I'm not very familiar with that part...

Hope this helps!!!

Thank you Jen! You'll have to let me know how it all turns out. How far ahead did you pay your deposit? We are thinking of waiting til January just to make sure that is what we want to do. And the wedding will probably be in November.

Casa Mimosa's looks really nice. It will be fun to have all of your group together. Our wedding will probably be a bit bigger, about 20-30 people most likely. But there are other places you can rent as well I think and I really like that idea. I'm supposed to have a phone consultation with Tiffany tonight. I'll let you know how that goes. I'm mostly concerned about reserving the spot. I am not ready to do that yet and hope she will work with me in the mean time. Oh my concern about getting things over from Cancun has to do with our own personal items. I know we'll have a lot with wedding dress, suit plus all the stuff that a baby comes with (we have a 6 month old). I just worry it will be a pain to land and then have to take a boat to get there, but I'm thinking it will be worth it! Also, I know what you mean, there aren't as many posts about Isla as there are about some other locations. I was starting to worry because no one seemed to be into Isla either!

Talk to you soon, Jordan

Good luck with Tiffany. She answered alot of questions for me before I put a deposit down. We just picked the location and put a deposit last month I think..7 months prior. You should be fine waiting until January as long as you are flexible on the specific day you want the wedding.

I haven't really thought about getting all of our luggage on a ferry. Ugh. I think I am avoiding that thought. Some travel sites say it is so easy to take a bus to the ferry but I am not dragging a wedding dress and whatever else we have (and baby stuff for you!) on a bus! Oh well. It will be a small hassle in the grand scheme of things.

Soltamargo! Sorry, for some reason I just now saw thissmile116.gif!!! Thank you for all the info. Did you say that you live there? I'd love to hear more about your prices for photographing weddings. My boyfriend really wants to wedding in Cozumel...and I'm still playing with that idea. Having never been to Isla, I am nervous to commit to having it there and have him say "i told you so"..so it's good to get information from someone who's been there. It helps a lot. So why are you unable to have your wedding there?

  • 5 years later...

the vibe on isla is laid back, the sun sets over the SEA! rather than in playa del Carmen cancun etc where it is setting over your hotel roof.

whats not to love?

Avenida Hidalgo for night life. Fénix beach bar for live cuban and salsa bands right on the beach, that turquoise blue sea?

affordable. accessible. relaxing. lots to see and do. wedding, honeymoon and holiday of a lifetime all rolled into one!
