Our Pets - Annie the Dog (then)

Last, but certainly not least, there is our dog, Annie. We've had Annie for just over a year now, and we got her when she was about 3 or 4 months old.

Poor little Annie had a rough start. She was rescued from a landfill outside the city on new year's day, when she was only about 3 months old. She was in pretty rough shape when they found her, starving and suffering from a number of ailments after living on garbage at the dump. When we met her, she had been on a farm with the rescue organization for a month or so and was doing a lot better, but she was still having some problems with her stomach.

We had been looking for a rescue dog, and when we saw Annie, we knew she was our dog. She was so timid and afraid of everyone when we first met her. She had clearly been abused at some point before she was rescued, which is so hard to wrap my brain around, especially since she was all of 3 months old when she was rescued. She had some scars on her snout and she was just so afraid. The poor girl. I can't even think about what might have happened to her, because it just makes me want to cry.

We had to wait about a week to adopt her, while they continued to monitor her health. It was like torture, because we so wanted to bring her home! We went to see her at the shelter every day, and then finally we got to bring her home.

She had some health issues at first, but after a few vet visits and finding her the right food that didn't upset her stomach, her health is great. The best part though, is that she is such a happy dog now! She's still a little timid with strangers, but it doesn't take her long to warm up, and she's actually starting to get outgoing! The vet thinks she's golden retriever crossed with Australian shepherd, plus maybe a little shar pei, so it's not too surprizing! The golden retriever sure comes shining through with her energy level!

Anyway, here's our little trooper!

When we first brought her home, and she wouldn't leave her kennel for the first 24 hours...
