Marathons, 1/2s, and 10Ks oh my!

Recommended Posts

Hey runners!

I'm happy I came across this thread. I've been running for about 2 years and have completed 2 halfs. I'm overcoming a back injury (not running related) and missed my May half, so my goal of completeing a full is pushed back now also :(

Besides running, I strength train, box, and kick box. I'm sort of a workout freak when I'm in 'the zone' but as mentioned above, I'm coming off an injury so haven't been doing too much this summer so far. Just getting back into things at full effort now.

Happy running!

Runner here too!  I have done a few half marathons, one sprint tri and one mud run and many 5 milers and 5ks.  My next 1/2 is Sept.19th in Philly.  My next mud run is in Maryland on October 9th and then the wedding November 6th.  I was just let go from work and I'm bummed, but on the bright side, I get to work out every day and sometimes twice a day!!  I love spin, weights, running, and yoga.  The FI got a personal trainer at the gym and is really getting into it too.  It's fun to be working on this together!

I try to be a runner. I've done many 5ks and will hopefully do my 4th 1/2 this November. I'm newly preggo, so depending on how I feel, that will be my deciding factor. My goal for next year is to do more trail races. That's usually where I do most of my running, but all the courses I've done are road courses.

I'm getting married on Oct 30, and was trying to lose weight on my own without any results.  Needless to say I joined an amazing gym that is very reasonably priced for what they have, basically unlimited personal training.  Anyway....she basically coerced me into a half Marathon in December, yikes! HAHA.  I'm excited but nervous.  Will it be bad if I miss a week of training during the wedding?

Yay, good for you!! Which 1/2? No, not at all! Just get a long run in the week before and the week after. Your body remembers. Now, if you take more time off you'll feel it a little bit, but you'll probably feel even more refreshed and refocused. You'll be fine! :)

I'm running the Palm Beach half marathon on Dec 5th.  If I get the bug I might even do the Disney half, which my sister is doing.

Thanks so much for the tip!!

Yay! Good luck!! You'll be addicted when you're finished! :) Just get a long run in weekly and increase it each week (by 1/2 mile, mile, whatever you feel like) and it will help you prepare for the 13.1! :)

Hey, I just noticed this thread.  I do at least 1 or 2 halfs and a bunch of 10 ks every year.  This year its only 1 1/2 because with all the wedding stuff, I just haven't been able to make any of the dates for the others.  Mine is coming up in 3 weeks.  I am the worst role model, I do not train for them.  I just do my regular running and some 10ks races and then go run the 1/2.  I've been running since elementary school so fortunately, even when I don't train, my body still remembers.  Oh and thank god for the pace bunny.  I find the 2:15 bunny and just follow him or her.  I know if I trained, I would do so much better.  And of course, when I do actually train then I don't have to spend the entire day after the run knocked on my a$$.  Good luck to everyone who has a race coming up soon.

CINDY! :) It made me smile to see you here! I'm lurking around this am, hehe, slow day!

I only train for the fulls or else I would absolutely DIE on race day!! I wish there were more 10k's around here, we don't have too many. And AMEN with the pace bunny! I'm hooked and will always do that from now on. Well, most of the time.

Yeah, pace bunny rocks!  I would love to do a full marathon one day but I know for that I do need to actually train, no way to wing that.  I seriously trained for one in University.  I did one of those 4 month training plans, my long run was up to 33 kms and then I got tendonitis in my ankle and had to stop running completely for several months and since them, I've just never done serious training.  I think a marathon will be my goal for next year.

BTW Nikki, your avatar always makes me smile.  I love runningskirts.
