Ka'anapali Beach

Any thoughts on Ka'anapali Beach Hotel or Royal Lahaina Resort as venues? I've never been to Maui, so it would be great to get some feedback on either of these locations if any of you have been there. Thanks!

I've been to both hotels but it was in Oct. 2005 so its been a while. I stayed at the Kaanapali Beach hotel and liked it because the rooms were a good size. I liked that they had the free nightly entertainment. Its also really close to the black rock for snorkeling and you can walk on the board walk into Whalers Village. The pools there weren't anything special though.

I didn't stay at the Royal Lahaina but I saw the rooms there. I wasn't crazy about them, but I know they have since renovated them. Also from what I remember they didn't have a big pool area either.

I've not stayed at either- but I know the area well as I've been going to Maui since I was little. When I was looking for venues for my own Maui wedding- the Royal Lahaina was on my short list. They have private beach front cottages where you can hold your wedding- and it's quite private. You'd have to rent the cottage for 2 nights though- as check-in times are late, and it wouldn't give you enough time to set up on the day of. But I think it would be a great spot to get Maui'd!! :)

Thanks for the insight ladies!!! We're really considering either of these two now. Our original choice is still on hold for a possible booking with someone else, so we wanted to make sure we had a good back up. All of our friends and family are really anxious to know the plans so we're trying to get this part figured out asap. Thanks again!

Thanks fallfromgrace! We're shooting for May 20, 2011. We had originally planned to get married at home here in San Diego but the costs kept racking up so we just decided destination wedding it is! This feels more like us anyways and are really happy about this decision. But since we're within our 1 year mark already, I've been desperately trying to find a venue asap so we can give an official date to our friends and family.

Congras renstar. What you said really holds true for us as well. We were thinking of having the wedding in Seattle first, and then realized that it'd have to be a really big wedding. So we decided to go to Maui instead, however, it turns out that most of our friends just like us had never been there either, so they are all coming! With our family and relatives who are aching to make a vacation out of it. So long story short, now we are doubled in size that we had anticipated for.... So just watch out... don't invite people 'cause you think they'll never come 'cause it's far or what not, they might just surprise you by showing up cheesy.gif

Ka'anapali Beach is really nice.  Black rock is really great to go snorkeling in, however, I have found that it is way too much like a tourist resort.   The best place to see Sea Turtles is outside of Little Beach (Makena Beach).   I would look at VRBO for Lahaina, Kihei or if you want a really quiet and peaceful place away from the normal tourist traps, I would also check out Pai'a or Haiku.

If you do go to Ka'anapali, there is no doubt it is beautiful, but be prepared for the beach crowds that are mostly tourists.  Be prepared to pay a lot of money for things.  For example, right beside Black Rock to rent snorkeling gear, it is 15.00/day, where as if you are in Lahaina (right outside the Safeway) there is a surf shop that rents them for 2.50/day.

If you want some beach pictures check out Nora's (from norasphotos.com) blog:  You can see the different sunsets from different places.  :)

She also lives in Maui, so if you have any questions, she is a really good contact.
