I told the main people first, he took my Dad to lunch to ask his permission - so cute. Then I went facebook crazy! I think my first Status was 'if you like it then u should of put a ring on it!" then changed to ENGAGED lol

I'm actually taking a break from fb now though. Might go back on now, just remembered fun times smile29.gif

This is what we did to.

We still haven't changed our Facebook statuses for a few reasons: 1) We're inherently private people. 2) We both have exes that regularly try to check up on us via NewsFeed and mutual friends' comments. 3) We both decided we would not change our status until we're married. FB can be a blessing, but it's ultimately a curse, lol. We simply told our nearest and dearest first by phone or in-person, and then the news spread little by little. There are still people I see frequently that don't know I'm engaged! It's kind of fun actually...

One of my distant friends heard about it from her mother (whom I'm close to), and congratulated me on my FB wall. I immediately took it down and sent her message explaining why. I don't like even congratulating people on whatever it may be via their Wall. I will do it thru a PM so as not to put their business out there in case it wasn't public news yet. I think you just have to follow the lead of the couple. It's their news to share, so let them set the tone.

Well said! We are the same way- we don't even have our relationship on FB. I really like keeping up with friends that are out of state so I can see how it would be frustrating not to know of your friend from high school's excitement simple bc you live far away or don't speak often. when I get my ring I will be letting those people who love us know first then let my parents spread the news.

I really wanted to let everyone close to me first before changing the facebook status, but when I got home my FI had already sent me the facebook request, I thought it would be brutal if I replied "no" to this request. So I just did it and dealt with my friends. I tried to tell them as soon as I could, and told them my reasoning for changing my status so quickly and it kind of turned into a joke, which worked out perfectly!
