Question for the American/Canadian Ladies

Hi Ladies,

 

I just wanted to pick your brains, i'm getting married in Gran Caribe Real in 2012 i've been checking trip advisor and they have been consistently getting good reviews, however the last couple of weeks the reviews have been saying that a large group of 250 american/canadian 18-22 year olds took over the resort and were basically doing what college kids do...being loud, drunk, obnoxious. Apparantly they were so bad people were demanding to be moved to other resorts.

 

Now this is the same time that i would be out the there getting married in 2012, I don't have a problem with college kids but obviously don't want to have a large group being drunk and loud the week of my wedding.

 

I am just trying to figure out if this was a one off or if college kids regularly flock to cancun in first 2 weeks of July. I am aware of spring break end of March/April and Summer break end of May/June, but was not aware of any big holiday break for canadians/americans in July. Or have I totally got the dates wrong.

All i can think of is our Independence day , July 4th...not sure if thats why they were all down there...

July 1st is Canada Day, but it's not really a holiday that people would go away for (especially since it's just as hot here). The only thing I could think of would be that it's summer and kids aren't in school.

You've got the dates correct, but you always run the risk of having a group of annoying people any time you vacation. We got married in Puerto Vallarta the weekend after American Thanksgiving and there are no holidays that I know of during that time. There was another wedding party of college age kids at the resort and they were super obnoxious and rude. The guys were "cage fighters" and tried to pick fights with the guys in our group... including my FIL. They were rude to the staff and all of the bartenders got to the point of completely ignoring them. They tried to crash our private rehearsal dinner bonfire, but I just asked them to leave. Essentially our group got a kick out of how stupid these people were and added a little entertainment and story-telling to our wedding weekend. Sometimes you just have to hope for the best and then take what happens with a smile... especially because... you're getting married )

Obviously Canada Day and Independance Day create long weekends... I also wonder if it could be kids that have just finished high school looking to celebrate?
