Who is walking you down the aisle? Is it ok to choose no one?

magirl - I am with you as I will be 31 by the time my wedding rolls around and I don't feel the need to be "given away" either.  However, I do think pictures of my father and I walking down the aisle will be special for my dad and my mom.  So my plan is to walk down the aisle with my dad, but to not have anything in the ceremony like "who gives this woman to be married?"

For reference to my personality:  My now brother-in-law asked my father for my sister's hand in marriage before proposing.  When my Dad told me, I responded with: If a man ever asks you for my hand, you had best turn him away and tell him that he needs to rethink how well he knows me.

Thats awsome, I probably would have said the same thing. I was thinking actaully I may have my dad escort me from my room to some staging area, where he can then group up with my mother and I can meet FI.  Then the photographers will have plenty of time to get father/daughter pics, and I will still get to walk with FI.

I have decided for my mother to walk me down the isle. My parents divorced when I was 2, and I did have a relationship with my Dad until I was 13 or so. Then my older brother and I have had zero contact with him since then after a big falling out. Although my mom has been with my stepdad for 18 years now, my mom has always played the role of Mom AND Dad and she has done an amazing job. I

So weird how wedding always seem to bring out the worst in terms of family drama. Neither of my parents will be attending my wedding (they're not happy with FI because we're different religions) and have disowned me.

I also don't have any brothers so I'll be walking by myself. FI will meet me halfway and we'll walk the rest of the way together.

I am so sorry to hear this. I wish the best of luck to you and all the happiness you deserve! I hope you two still have a wonderful day.

My mom will be walking me down the aisle and sadly like Vermontwedding  I tragically lost my dad in 2008 so in his honor I will have a small memorial picture frame of him wrapped around my bouquet so that he is still walking down the aisle with me:)

But I feel strong that it is an honor to walk anyone down that aisle and give them away so if you do not feel like any particular person deserves that honor then you should most definitely be the one to give yourself away!

Thank you; that's very sweet of you. I've made my peace with it now and am happy with my decision to meet FI halfway.
