Puppy Proposal

Recommended Posts

On December 22, 2009, our nearly 15 year old yellow lab named Joey passed away. We knew he was ill and had been looking for a puppy to add to our family before he passed. As all of pets have been rescues, we were hoping to find another rescue puppy, specifically a male yellow lab like Joey. Unbeknownst to me, J found a puppy and was able to bring him home on December 23, 2009. Well J is very sneaky and he didn't say a word to me about finding a puppy. Rather, he picked him up and took him straight to the vet's to be checked out and boarded until Christmas morning.

Christmas morning, we woke up early and headed down to open presents. J was insistent that he wanted a glass of egg nog before we opened our presents. So I went to the fridge to get him one, but there was none to be found. What I didn't know was that J had taken all the egg nog the night before and hid it in the garage. J said he really wanted egg nog so he was going to run out to the store to get some. I thought it was a little odd that he wanted egg nog so badly on Christmas morning that he would run out to get some but didn't really think much of it (still too sleepy I guess).

J returned about 45 minutes later, explaining that being Christmas morning he had to drive around to several places to get the egg nog. We sat down to open presents and J brought me over a big wrapped box with a big red bow on it. Just as he was bringing it over, I heard a little whimper. Well, our other dog Winston was across the room so it couldn't have been him. I got all excited, thinking J had got me a puppy. There was an amazingly sweet card with the box but because I was sure there was a puppy in the box, I have to admit I didn't read it too close. I opened the box and sure enough, there was a beautiful 8 week old yellow lab inside. However, when I started to pet him, I noticed a pretty ribbon around his neck. It immediately registered in my brain that the ribbon said Birks on it. I excitedly grabbed the ribbon and started turning it around and sure enough, there was my beautiful engagement ring hanging around the puppy's neck. J asked me to marry him and I of course said yes. It was definitely the best Christmas ever.
