Hi Everyone, I found this site late last night and was hooked. I was up half the night looking around! I got engaged in March and will be getting married in June 2011. We have narrowed our destination down to the Dominican Republic or Aruba. I look forward getting and sharing many ideas in the next year!

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your engagement. This site is highly addictive and awesome for planning a destination wedding!! We chose the Dominican Republic because we specifically wanted our resort. I know other people choose their resorts/locations due to weather, affordability, and if they've been there before. Take some time to search the resorts you're interested in and read the reviews. It will all come together very soon. Good luck and enjoy your planning!

Congrats! And welcome to the forum. Have you traveled to both places? I just got back from DR and went to Aruba a couple of years ago. I'd say they are pretty different places. The DR is mainly all-inclusives and while there are plenty of things to do off of the resort, I definitely felt more safe out on my on in Aruba. I would say that the DR is more affordable and Aruba is more americanized, only a few all-inclusives with some amazing restaurants all over the island (but most are pricey). I think it really depends on what type of atmosphere you are looking for and what is affordable for your guests. Let me know if I can answer any questions for you.

Happy Planning!

Julie

Welcome and congratulations!! I've also been to both Aruba and DR, and the biggest difference to consider is $$$. Aruba is much more expensive than DR, so you'll have to consider your guest list and how important it is to you that as many people as possible can come. If you're planning a very small, intimate wedding with few guests, then Aruba will do too.

Good luck with your planning!
