Who paid for your dress

Recommended Posts

my dress was only $500 so i paid $300 and my mom paid $200.... but my parents also gave us the money for the wedding package which was extremely generous and unexpected... in this day and age we are in now it is hard for everyone financially so my fiance and i were expecting to pay for the entire wedding.

I totally get what you are saying. I paid for my own dress, and my mom also has more than enough money that she could have bought it for me. She is not very up in traditons, so it didnt really hurt my feelings as I know she will be helping me in all other aspects. I also know that if I talked to her she would have paid for it, but that was not important to me. But it is an option for you...talk to her about how you feel, you might be surprised what you find out.

We are paying for our own wedding.  Any gifts from our parents will be appreciated, but are not expected or being encouraged.  My FI and I both have good jobs and the greatest gift we can ask for is their presence at our wedding.  That's what matters to us.  I am assuming that I will be paying for my own dress.

I haven't really asked my parents if they would help. I know my FI's mom can't.  So I mentioned this to my mom once that my FI's  mom feels guilty about not being able to help financially (although we did not ask).  My mom said, well make her feel better and say we're not helping you either..... :(((( But I'm still hoping that when we go to buy the dress, my mom will help.... I will bring this up with her though before we go shopping/looking.... At this stage, I'm making sure I have enough of my own $ to pay for everything.  If they end up helping - that will be great; however, if they don't, I know we are financially ready to handle the payments on our own.

Paid for my own dress.  We're paying for the entire wedding ourselves, so we made it clear to both sets of parents that we dont expect them to pay for anything, other than their own tickets to attend the wedding.  Each set of parents has very different financial situations, so it was the only way we could think of avoiding any bad feelings if one side does more than the other.
