Announcements?!

Did anyone send out announcements of their engagement? There are some long lost family members and family friends that my mom and Jason's mom would like us to send announcments to, but not invitations. What does one write on an announcement?

are they people that would be invited to your wedding? maybe you could do an announcement/STD all-in-one?

we didn't "announce our engagement" really... but mostof the guests invited to the wedding knew... And the we sent STD's (which I agree with Ann) you could send your announcement then

I haven't heard of announcements for the engagement. I know in more traditional weddings, an announcement is made in local papers for situations like this. Then, once the wedding is over, a wedding announcement will go out afterwards to people the couple weren't able to extend an actual invitation to. (basically, same as a wedding invitation without actually saying they are invited. Normal wording is something like 'so and so were married at x location, on x date, at x time.' Something very simple and basic.)
