Wedding Day: How important is the day of the week?

Recommended Posts

We were set on a Saturday when we were going to get married locally, but now that we chose to have a destination wedding..we aren't sure if we should still stick to the Saturday, or go with another day. I notice a lot of resorts do weddings every day. How important is the day of the week to choose? Are there "less busy" days? And what day did you choose? Any input on this would be greatly appreciated!

I'm getting married on a Friday, & I think it works out well so that no one has to wake up and leave the day after the wedding. Since most people coming to a destination wedding aren't just planning on a one or two day trip, I figured everybody would be there by Friday. If you think most of your guests would stay the whole week, you could pick any day & it wouldn't matter, but if you think some of your guests will just be planning a on a long weekend for your trip, Thursday - Saturday would probably be best.

Another thing to think about...there are generally rules about how far ahead of time you have to arrive at the resort before your wedding, so you should consider when you want to arrive at the resort before picking the day for your wedding.

We are getting married in Riviera Maya and you have to be there 3 business days before being allowed to get married, not counting the day of arrival. We are arriving on the Sunday and getting married on the following Thursday. All of our guests are ''suppose'' to arrive on the same day so no one has to leave the day after the wedding. We'll have 2 whole days of hanging out before everyone leaves.

It's worth checking out the laws on getting married and how long in advance you need to be there for... If we would arrive on a Friday or Saturday, we could only get married on the following Thursday and then would have to leave the day after the wedding... not cool, in my opinion.

When we started planning our DW, we had a very limited timeframe to work with due to my FI's schedule. Ideally, I would have preferred to get married on a Saturday but it didn't work out so we settled for Sunday. We are all arriving in Jamaica on Friday and half of our guests will fly home the day after the wedding and the other half are staying a few extra days. FI and I are honeymooning until Saturday.

The one thing I didn't want was to have to be at the resort for 3+ days before the wedding. Like Leigh said, many resorts/countries have "residency" requirements and require you to be there for so many days prior to the wedding. It varies and I believe some places are more willing than others to work with you and be flexible on this.

We are only able to spend a maximum of 8 days away from home and didn't want to spend half of that waiting to get married. Sandals is allowing us to arrive 2 days before the wedding, which sealed the deal for us. Plus, we're transferring to Couples after the wedding and didn't want to delay getting to our preferred resort.

My TA said it's generally better to avoid flying on Fridays, if possible. The rates are higher and flights are busier so that may be something you would want to take into consideration.

I'm doing a monday, it happens to be a federal holiday (in the US). I picked an available day based on fall breaks for my family (niece and future SIL are both in school). It happens to be in the middle of our time there (Th thru Friday). Probably some of our guests will leave the next day.

I'm getting married on a Monday. We had wanted to get married on the sunday (10-10-10) but because of departure dates, we had to bump the wedding one day up. Cuba requires you to be in the country to 3 days before you can get married, though my FI and I are doing a symbolic ceremony. We arrive on the 9th and the resort wants to have at least one day in between arrival and the ceremony. Then we leave on the 16th. The majority of our guests are staying the whole time. I think only my photographer is leaving early (2 days earlier due to wedding back in at home).

We picked a Sunday, as that was what worked with the resort! I think that if you're on "vacation", no one really pays attention to what day of the week it is. Still, I think that a lot of brides are set on Saturday and that's probably busier just for that. I know that at my resort, weekdays were cheaper than weekends just because people prefer to travel on weekends as they need fewer vacation days this way.
