Need Suggestions on hair and makeup for brown brides in the Playa del Carmen area

Recommended Posts

Hi Ladies,

I am really starting to worry about how I am going to wear my hair for the wedding. My hair is extremely thick and it is completely natural (unrelaxed). When I wet it, it curls up really tight and gets even thicker (if that makes sense). I am looking for a stylist in the Playa del Carmen area who has experience handling my type of hair. I am thinking about a straw set or something like that. I would prefer to go with someone who has experience not someone who think they'll be able to handle it. I know a lot of ladies will choose to wear micros/weave, etc., however, when my FI proposed, I had no hair. Since then, I've grown it out and want to wear my own hair.

I am also looking for a makeup artist who has experience with brown brides.

This is how my hair looked when my FI proposed (January, 2009)

My daughter and I are concern about the same thing, shoulder length natural hair in a humid climate, plus we love watersports!

I think we are going to let the resort stylist do our hair-they should be used to working with alot of difference hair textures-

We plan to bring our own products, like Carol's Daughter or Kinky curl, so with wet hair we can add products and have styled into a twist or chignon. My stylist at home has suggested a sew in, but with heat and humidity, I just can't imagine that (plus never wore a wig or weave, not sure my daughter's wedding place to start!)

Regarding our makeup, we plan to visit either MAC or Sephora and have them prepare a package and bring with us. Good luck, I am confident you will be a beautiful bride!

There's definitely a thread on here named Hair Questions for Chocolate Brides - I'm definitely subscribed! I would suggest that you consult with a hairstylist from the south - say Louisiana, where I'm from. The heat and humidity there are pretty comparable. They are very accustomed to working with our texture of hair, especially for those conditions. I'm sure that a hair stylist from Baton Rouge or New Orleans (where the humidity is very high) would have tons of ideas and maybe even websites.

As for make-up, there is a MAC counter in Riveria Maya. Call or email them to see if they have someone that specializes in your skintone and/or go to your local MAC counter. They will do a consultation for "free" if you buy a certain dollar amount of their products and teach you how to repeat the same look yourself. They even have a paper template that they will give you to take home with all of your products on it.

Thank you ladies!!!!!

I am actually subscribed to chocolate brides but that does not address what my issue is. Most of the ladies on that thread are/have worn wigs, weaves or braids. Also, it is not specific to the Playa del Carmen area so that thread hasn't been very helpful to me.

As for as the makeup, I actually use MAC products, but I was just wondering if anyone had used someone who specializes in brown tones. I don't really want to do my own makeup for the wedding day. This is so frustrating!

i'm totally feeling you on this - I am also in the playa del carmen area. I've had two quotes from 2 makeup artists but neither could show pics of makeup done on a "chocolate bride" sad.gif

I don't want to do my own makeup either. MsGlave - will you have any friends who can help out in the hair or makeup area? As far as hair, I think I might be better off just telling the staff at the hotel exactly what to do rather than sittign and crossing my fingers.

If it comes down to it, I will do my own makeup. I just REALLY don't want to. As far as the hair, if my hair was relaxed, I wouldn't worry to much about it. But since it's natural, I need a style that would hold up in the heat like a straw set. I'm not sure they know how to do it.
