How getting wedding stuff to resort?

Recommended Posts

I have seen so many great ideas on this forum and lots of do-it yourself type items. How are people getting everything to the resort? I checked my resort and they don't allow you to ship anything in ahead of time.

How is everyone getting their wedding party gifts, OOT gift bags, and decorations and supplies to the resort - on top of their luggage and dress?

Alot of ladies pack it with them. Some are fortunate enough to ship in advance but since yours doesn't allow it I would say you have to take it with you. When flying international you are allowed two checked bags per person. I am using one of FI's checked bags and one of my own for all of the stuff we have to carry. I know that my clothes can all fit in one checked bag and I will carry on my dress. Also my cousin will be flying down with us and has said that I can use one of her checked bags if I need to. Do you have parents or anyone travelling with you where you could maybe do this? Good luck!

We had a get together at a casual restaurant/bar for everyone going to Jamaica the week before where I gave them their OOT bags.

We are having an AHR. Much of our 'honorary' wedding party cannot come to Jamaica, so we are having a bbq at our house a week before the reception when we will give the wedding party and parents gifts.

As far as decorations--I didn't see the need for many since the beach will be beautiful enough for the ceremony. I do have fans, a sand ceremony frame and bottles, cake servers, and toasting flutes I am carefully packing in a carry on. I am shoving my purse into my carry on and using my dress as my personal item and either we are putting the tux into my dress bag or my fiance will carry it himself.

Your probably right. I just keep seeing all these fabulous ideas on here for DYI projects that I wondered, how in the world to get it all down there! I may have to learn how to pack more efficiently so I can have a 2nd suitcase for all the extras.

We didn't have a ton in terms of decorations, but we were able to ship our 2 capiz shell curtains for the ceremony chuppah to the wedding coordinator before we left (they wouldn't fit in any of our bags). If at all possible it's really helpful to ask other people to bring some things. We gave 1 suitcase to DH's brother to take with. We don't live in the same city & he arrived 2 days after we did so we had to decide what to put in that one (clothes/shoes) that we wouldn't need right away and then gave the bag to him a few weeks before we left. Then we each had 2 checked bags. We put his suit in the garment bag with my dress & carried it on.

This is what we brought:

OOT bag stuff for 21 bags (you can see exactly what in my planning thread, but it all filled one medium sized suitcase)

Votive holders. We packed a box of 12 and a 2nd box came with my sister-in-law.

Shoes optional sign, stand, straw mat & brushes

tile table #'s

tile place cards

BM gifts

cake topper (I actually carried this on with me b/c it's pretty fragile)

We bought tealights & our sand ceremony vase in PV when we got there and gave the groomsmen their gifts in advance.

Hope that helps!

Splitting up your decorations and OOT bag stuff among your guests is the easiest (and cheapest) way to get everything there. Going over the weight limit on the flight is very, very expensive, so you may as well take advantage of your guest's extra weight allowance that they may not be using.

My FI works for Continental, and he says that you usually are allowed two bags with no luggage fees for international flights. Check with your airline to see if they have this same guideline and to verify what their weight requirements are. Be VERY careful - the fees for exceeding the weight limits are outrageous! It is probably cheaper to just pay for an extra bag.

We are buying large Rubbermaid storage containers for most things (like our RealTouch bouquets, OOT bag stuff,...) and dividing them among family members. That way, we can leave the containers behind and won't have to be bothered with lugging around empty suitcases coming back home. We may, however, keep one to bring back souvenirs. :)

We upgraded to first class on the way to Mexico so we got 2 free checked bags each. I recommend calling your airlines to see what their fees are since they seem to change on a monthly basis these days. There is a pic of all of our luggage towards the bottom of my planning thread. We took OOT stuff and some decorations, but nothing over the top... but it still filled up the back of an SUV!
