2 weeks 2 long?

FI and I are planning to stay at our resort in Mexico for two weeks: one "wedding week" and one "honeymoon week". Most of our guests will just be there for the first week, though a number of them are even staying for 10 days or so. I was reading the Dreams Riviera Cancun FB fan page this morning and some posters were talking about how two weeks was too long to stay at this resort. That seems crazy to me - but what do you guys think?

I personally think that given the wedding, all the family and friends we are travelling with, and also the number of nearby places/attractions we want to check out (Playa del Carmen, Isle Mujeres, Cozumel, Tulum, Xcaret, etc. etc.) during our trip, we need at least two weeks! And P.S., if for some weird reason we're "bored", at least we're bored in paradise! I've never been to Mexico before, nor to an all-inclusive anywhere (ridiculous, I know, that I am planning my wedding at one, lol!), so I could definitely use some advice from more seasoned travellers. My mom, for example, has been to Mexico a number of times and always stays two weeks (and in fact will not stay for less!), but the FB posters have me worried now...

i totally agree with your comment about how much there is to do. If you consider that the wedding is taking up almost a whole week then you would likely spend some days with your guests that are still there, a honeymoon week to do excursions, relax, etc. sounds perfect to me! I usually do week long trips which I feel satisfied with, they're not too short but I'm not necessarily anxious to go home after the 7th day so I could imagine that 2 weeks would not be too long. I think it depends on where you're going - if you have several places to visit you'll need a whole day to explore and then some 'wind down' days just to lounge @ the resort.

I've definitely had friends that have gone on 2 week honeymoons and were dying to come home by the middle of the 2nd week but I think the trip will be what you make it. I say enjoy that long vacation girl!!!!

I don't think 2 weeks is too long at all! We originally wanted to stay for 10 days- 2 weeks so that we at least had some time to ourselves.....plus with so much to see outside of the resort, I thought 1 week was not enough to see it all, plus have a wedding. We unfortunately can't stay for more than a week (FI won't have the vacation time), but I think if you can do it! like you said even if you do get bored, you'll be in paradise!

2 weeks isn't too long, but I would suggest possibly switching resorts for your honeymoon week. A lot of brides do this as to create a new, private memory - one that's different from the wedding. Think about it, most "traditional" weddings take place in one location, and the couple goes somewhere else for the honeymoon. Just a thought!

I honestly don't think I could ever get bored in Mexico in two weeks, and I work in New York City! The city that NEVER sleeps! I love Mexico. There IS so much to do like you said and you guys will also want to just sit back and relax after entertaining everyone and the excitement of your wedding. I definitely don't think you went wrong booking 2 weeks.

Everyone is different and has different opinions but for your weddingmoon? I think it's the perfect amount of time. I always say a vacation is what you make of it and some people are never satisfied! I say, don't listen to those folks and just enjoy what you already planned. I have a feeling it will be beyond =)

I should also add, we go to Mexico 1-2x a year and we can always only get away for 8day/7 night periods, everyyyyyyyytime we get ready to leave we are like UGH Why can't we just do the full two weeks right now?! LOL It's absolutely fantastic to stay for two weeks!

2 weeks is not too long!!!! go for it and enjoy every minute of it!

if i had the vacation time at work, I'd be going for two weeks too!!

And, you are absolutely right, if its your first time going and you want to go to all the places you mentioned (xcaret, tulum, etc.etc.) then you are going to need the time, with some recovery days in between!

I certainly dont think 2 weeks is too long - i would say 95% of the UK brides are staying 2 weeks as we are travelling so far and have to be in Mexico 3-5 days before the wedding - so most of us cant get married until the 2nd week anyway.

Oh to be bored in paradise - on your sunlounger, reading a book, with a refreshing cocktail...... i want to be bored right now xx
