My Accomodation Nightmare

I have used 'vacation rentals by owner' (VRBO is Vacation Rentals By Owner) the last three times i went to Maui, and each time the pictures online WERE of the actual condo. That's why I love the site - I get to reserve directly through the condo owner and see pics of the actual condo i will be renting. I'm having my wedding in August and everyone in my party is staying at Kealia Resort (in South Kihei on Sugar Beach), and most guests used VRBO is Vacation Rentals By Owner.

We're staying at the Aston Kaanapali Shores this October as well as our guests. I chose it for the same reason as Allsmiles. Its close to Kaanapali and there were various different room types for my guests could choose from. Another bride on here stayed there last year with her guests and she enjoyed the resort. I remember reading that someone had contacted the resort a few weeks prior to everyone going asking for renovated rooms, and almost everyone has a renovated unit. I'm going to do this for my guests as well. Once we come back this October I'll post a review of how it is.

Aston Kaanapali Shores is directly next to Papakea (where my parents own a condo at). It too is owned by Aston. It sounds like a very similar situation. Though, having walked by Kaanapali Shores a millions times (my folks also have a condo on the opposite side @ Kaanapali Beach Club) I really like Papakea's grounds & pools better. But it's really depends on the "grade" of room you get. If you get an upgraded room- it makes all the difference in the world.

Oh my gosh - I just recently got back from Maui and I had to post a comment on accommodation. If you have the money and you would like to stay in Wailea, the Grand Wailea looked amazing. It's pricey... so we didn't actually stay there, but we walked around the grounds. Lazy river, a few pools, slides, rope swing -- the outside looked pretty impressive. But like I said, I know it's very pricey!

Hi Everyone,

After a bit of to and fro, we have decided on the Aston Maui Hill. It has good/bad reviews on trip advisor BUT I just talked to a bride and groom who stayed there in May, and though it's not the flashiest place, they told me it was perfect place for a wedding group to stay. The bride told me that the rooms ranged from dated to renovated, but everything was clean, the rooms a good size, and all the guests were happy there.

It is also a 4 min walk to the Five Palms (where we are having our wedding and reception) so all in all, this looks like the easiest option.

Thanks so everyone who left advice! I will be putting the VRBO link on our wedding website to give guests the options of looking for their own accommodation should they choose not to stay at the Maui Hill.

I have been to Maui a few times and have always stayed at the Outrigger Palms at Wailea. They are beautiful condos that are decently priced! They are spacious, have a small living room and kitchen, nice bathrooms and one or two bedrooms (One bedrooms do mostly all have a pull out couch). They also have a BBQ on the deck which is a must for my family. The only down fall is its not right on the beach, but they are still only a 5 minute walk away.

Hi There!

In Sept. I took a quick vacation to Maui where my then boyfriend proposed....it was perfect! We stayed between Kihei and Wailea at a place called Mana Kai Maui.  It was amazing.  We, too, had a very difficult time finding good accomodations for an affordable price.  Most of the places in Kihei, you have to cross the road, which I really didn't like the idea of.  Then we found the Mana Kai Maui.  It's location is great - directly on the beach. Looks like it had recently been renovated, the lobby was beautiful and the beach was so nice.  The 5 Palms restaurant is on the ground level and you can rent paddleboards, snorkel gear, etc right from their grounds as well.

We found it to be a great place to stay and the price was very reasonable considering we had an oceanview oceanfront location.  It's definitely worth checking out. Also, while we were there, we saw at least 3 different weddings & reception parties, so I'm guessing it must be a hotspot for that!

Depends on the side of the island you want.  I got married in Wailea so my guest stayed in that area.  My BFF stayed at the Outtrigger Palms.  I went to visit and it was like a mini apartment it was so nice.  My family stayed at the Wailea Grand Champion.  They got a three bedroom and it was great nice a spacious.  Thats were I got ready on wedding day. My husbands family stayed at  Hotel Wailea which was nice.  It still was a a hotel but all the rooms are suits come with kitchens and each building is only two stories.  Unlike my self I stayed at the Wailea Marriott.  Next time I'll be staying in a condo or at Hotel Wailea.

The Maui Banyons is not on the ocean, there aren't any new condos being built on the ocean as there is no room. If price is real important and view is not, it's nice for vacation accommodations, but if you are here on your honeymoon you deserve to have a nice ocean view condo. Here is a package that I found which includes the 6 night deluxe oceanfront room and your Maui beach wedding, pretty good for the type of accommodations you get http://www.hawaiianislandweddings.com/maui_weddings/maui_wedding_honeymoon.html#package
