Cancun or Playa del Carmen, March Spring Breakers?

Hi -

I've been engaged for 6 months but I'm just starting to plan

 

We're thinking either the Ritz Carlton in Cancun or somewhere in Playa del Carmen.

 

Is Cancun really crowded with Spring Breakers in mid-March?

 

Also, do most people have the reception inside or do some hotels offer partial outside receptions (perhaps a room with an inside component with an outside area?)?
