So, I'm going to be getting married in the US Virgin Islands, and the future Mother-in-Law keeps insisting it won't be legal since some of the people doing weddings down there might not be accredited. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Hmm, since it's the USVI, I'd assume so but take a look at the official USVI website regarding marriages. Some islands are funny when it comes to their rules - some require residency for several days, while others require lots of paperwork. Many brides get officially married in city hall in their hometowns (did that yesterday, yay!!) and then hold the ceremony/reception on the island.
