El Dorado Royale (EDR) Brides - POST HERE!

Brides, I am hopeful you can help me. I am getting married in November, I am honestly starting to feel stressed! Our wedding will be held at Generations (will have children attending). I haven't decided if I was going to bring my own DJ from home (Virginia) or if I would be able to find a DJ in Mexico to use. I am looking for a DJ that plays more Hip - Hop/ R & B - any suggestions?

@@Nikhea we used the Mega DJ and everyone loved him! We gave him a spreadsheet of music we wanted him to play and he also took requests from our guests. I think we paid $1000 so if you can find someone that is less expensive it may be worth it ☺️ We flew our photographer down so it made sense financially to just use what lomas offered for other things.

We just got married at El Dorado Royale on June 16th and we also went with the DJ that was offered through Lomas. They emailed us a music spreadsheet where we listed a lot of songs we wanted him to play during the reception (mostly hip hop & R&B along with specific songs for the first dance, garter & bouquet toss etc. We were VERY HAPPY with this DJ. He kept the party going all night long. We never sat down once the entire time. The DJ also had glow sticks & balloons which were a hit! Luckily we saved $500 by providing our own MC so I can't comment on that part but other than that I think you are safe

Do you have the info for Mego DJ? I only see DJ Mix and DJ Max on the Lomas site. Thanks in advance!

Was it hard not having an MC? I would want to ask a family member but I don't want it to consume their entire night. Does the dj control the flow of the night or was it the MC? Or did the MC just announce the bride and groom then speeches?

Is anyone working with Lomas and feeling a like your wedding might not even happen? 

Our wedding isn't until April, so I get that we're not a top priority and the whole "Caribbean time" doesn't bother me.

It's that we still don't have an answer about confirming ceremony/reception locations or how to book the DJ, or how to confirm/book ANYTHING. And the few responses we have received from our coordinator all took over a week. I'm so nervous I made a HUGE mistake by planning a destination wedding.....

We had similar issues and were given a new coordinator very close to our wedding date without a lot of notification.... BUT everything turned out absolutely perfect and just the way we wanted it. It's so hard to just hang in there and be patient but looking back, I wish I would have just relaxed a little more. A lot of details fell into place during the last few months. The first thing for us was location and general thoughts like- we want a private reception vs the "free dinner" and instead we wanted to use our free dinner as our welcome dinner. Things like menus, decor, flowers and dj all came much later in our planning process.

 

You will not regret having a destination wedding!!

@@LoLoJabs we just want to know we can use the venues we love, I'm fine with waiting for a while to get fine details down I just want to be sure we won't get put in like.... the ballroom when we want to have Tucanes, it feels kinda crazy to put down a save the date deposit but not be able to confirm the venues! ACK

We were married at EDR on July 3rd, 66 people, and it was a great experience.

 

Some tips:

 

1. My first Lomas WC was too slow to respond. I complained to my TA (since she highly reccos EDR) and was set up with a new WC, Sandy. She was great! Huge improvement in response time.

2. I suggest scheduling a series of calls with your WC to work through the details. Much easier. I would follow up our calls with emails bullet pointing details discussed in writing. She would follow up with any outstanding questions. They also provide you a budget tracker/detail sheet that they update with all details as you go through the planning process. You pay just before you leave.

2.5. The on site WC are different, and while they do their best to communicate all details, it's best to have everything written on that detail sheet for you to review with the on site WC when you arrive. (They will schedule a meeting with you)

3. Resort DJ and MC was good. Though they played a couple songs on my DNP list, so don't really bother with that. We gave the MC a timeline and he managed the flow of the evening.

4. Costs for lighting was crazy. We brought our own string lights, set up fees were still pricey but negotiated a discount by offering to leave the decor behind for the resort to use again.

5. I learned that going a la carte V's the packages is the cheaper way to do it. Just pay for what you really care about.

6. We did the beach BBQ and guests raved about the food. They have a big grill on site.

7. I got my hair done by Rafa at the casitas spa and she did an amazing job. During the trial she didn't get it quite how I wanted, then the next day I could tell she thought about it, used a different technique and nailed it. The trial package is worth it, then you have your hair done for the rehearsal night, and gives the hairdresser some time to get to know you and your hair.

8. This is silly, but I found out they delivered multiple full bottles of alcohol to the grooms room before the wedding. My husband didn't request any of it, just showed up! Meanwhile, I requested a bottle of tequila for my room and they said they could only give us sparkling wine. How sexist is that! Anyway, just FYI in case you're worried about drunk groomsmen, or want some booze for your room.
