El Dorado Royale (EDR) Brides - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

We chose the Salon Dorado because it offered a/c; however, guests and mainly waiters are in and out of the space so much that the small amount of a/c that was in the space escapes outside. Also, since they dont generally use the room unless they are hosting an event, they dont turn the a/c on until the day off so the space isnt completely cool and has a slight musty smell. If we were to have our reception again, knowing what I know now, I dont think I would have it at the Salon Dorado.

The columns were strange to work around, but I also thought the space was slightly too big for the 40 people we had. We were all very spread out and there was a lot of empty, random space near the entrance. The dance floor was a good size and right next to the bar and DJ, which could be good or bad LOL.

Hi Nikki - did you guys do organized snorkeling excursions, or just snorkel off of EDR's beaches? If you did organized excursions, who did you use, and which tour did you do? Would you recommend them?

Allie,

Many of our guests just snorkeled off the EDR beach and said it was actually quite good. My husband and I went with 2 other guests on a scuba excursion that we booked through Lomas Travel, but we did not organize a large group outting. I found that most people either wanted to relax at the resort or wanted to go and do their own thing with their significant other. After organizing all the events we had at the resort, I did not want to try be the organizer for a big group excursion! Plus with people coming in on different days, I didnt want to pressure people into committing to another wedding oriented event, since many people used it as their vacation.

Oh, I completely agree with you!! We aren't planning a group outing - the welcome dinner and wedding are enough. We (my FI and I) are planning to do a snorkel catamaran trip one day, and maybe a trip to Tulum or Coba another day. I think we'll probably take the shuttle into Playa del Carmen or Cancun one day too.

We have provided the links to Lomas' website if anyone else wants to do a tour on their own. I think only a couple of people are staying more than 3 or 4 nights anyway, so most people will hang close to the resort.

My mom was talking about doing an excursion with the family the day before or the day after we get married. Since the day before is really the only full day we'll have with everyone at the resort, I'm planning to stay by the pool to see everyone. And the day after...well I sort of doubt we will do much at all. We'll see - I'm worried it'll become a contention point with her (we traveled all this way to spend time with you blah blah blah!).

I haven't been on here in a few months since my wedding was 1 1/2 ago, but I love checking in from time to time to see how all the EDR brides are doing! I'm excited for you all and wish I was there again!! It's so beautiful and relaxing :)

I saw some of you posting about Valeria not allowing you to have friends/family set up decor you bring anymore. That seems really unfair(aka money grab), but I have a feeling that if your friends show up to the recption area an hour before the event, they can set up stuff no problem. I found that anything I did once I was there, I wasn't charged extra for since I had already been issued an invoice and paid(we needed some extra chairs and got extra time with the donkey).

We have 17 RSVPs back so far!! A little less than half what we expected, and we asked to have them by Sept 1st. That makes me pretty happy!!

Do any of you past brides have a good estimate on the time it takes to get through the airport & customs, and actually get to EDR? Some of our guests aren't getting in until 5pm on Saturday, and right now our welcome dinner is scheduled for 6:30. wondering if I need to bump it back 30 minutes so they can join us. I think they will do a private shuttle vs. shared, if that helps at all.

It took some of our guests over 3 hours to get through customs and to EDR. If your guests are landing at 5, I would suspect they wont get through customs any earlier than 6:15. If they happen to be on a shuttle that is only dropping off at EDR that would be faster, but some of our guests were on shuttles that had multiple drop offs on the way to EDR so it took forever.
