El Dorado Royale (EDR) Brides - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

Thanks for posting the pics!  I just added them as attachments so I guess that's why they didn't show up the first time.

The beach was super windy while we were there.  I really wanted to wear my hair half down or a little bit looser but there is no way that it would have held.  I did a practice run for the rehearsal and my hair fell flat after 20 min.

The chairs come with the pads and they were $12 for one location and $16 if you want to use them at both locations.  Pretty pricey but I thought they looked nice.

The Mexican Donkey is $200 for 1 hour, includes 12 bottles or cans of beers. It's listed here, under "Entertainment", and "Performances" http://www.weddingsbylomastravel.com/planning/'>http://www.weddingsbylomastravel.com/planning/

Or you can do it as part of a standing cocktail, and from what I can tell those are priced based on the food (and include 2 hours of open bar).

The packages for the wedding itself are pretty set from what I understand. Here's the PDF on the Maroma packages: http://www.weddingsbylomastravel.com/pdf/El_Dorado_Maroma.pdf

The packages all come with dinner reservations for the group. It's semi-private, and in one of the restaurants. If you want a private dinner/reception, then the price is based on the price per plate and are found in the banquet guide: http://www.karismahotels.com/sites/default/files/WeddingBanquetKit_0.pdf

For instance, we're going to do a Pick & Choose dinner, so we'll choose 1 appetizer, 2 entrees and 1 dessert for our guests. We'll have our guests tell us which entree they want (45 days ahead of the trip), and our price will be based on those numbers. So if 10 pick lobster & filet, and 10 pick chicken, it's 10 x 26 + 10 x 22. There are also buffet options and such in the banquet guide.

Then for the centerpieces, etc, you'll need to consult the Lomas Weddings site. They have categories for flowers (centerpieces), table decorations, linens, etc. For instance, they charge $4 per chair cover, and $4 per chair bow (yes!! $8!!!). hence why I'm bringing my own chair bows lol

Here's the link again to Lomas' Wedding planning page:  http://www.weddingsbylomastravel.com/planning/

Hope that helps answer some of your questions!

Eldorado2012 I wonder if I can ask for a swicth gracefully without being rude?

Questions for you guys:

Does anyone know the cost for the Mexican Donkey? I havent been able to find or keep missing it in the info.

Anyone planning a wedding of 35-50? Im looking at what they offer informs of packages and its looking it will be quite expensive since we can't used the wine room. Anyone know if you get credit for the first 20 and then pay the private plating fee? I was told bt Natalia that we cant have the Sabores for the reception and will have to do a beach reception. She also said because its a smaller resort they dont cater to larger groups. I didnt think 35 was that large. Im expecting 35 but only saying 50 if more people decide they are in. I wanted a smaller resort so it was more intimate and better for the elderly guests (not as much walking) Im very confused at how much the reception will cost me with that many guests and decorated tables. Anyone know? Any sugestions for saving $ at the resort? Natalia seems to be set in stone for all the pricing and nothing can be exchanged (eg blood tests for flower or food credit) I honestly bought into the whole destination weddings are free so we really did not save much beyond the largest package.

Goodluck everyone with their planning!

For anyone that has recently gotten married at EDR, did you have any trouble with the resort wedding planner not having the same info as what was confirmed with your planner online?

For April 2012 brides, could you please let me know how the meeting with your EDR wedding planner goes?

I have read in previous posts that some brides have actually printed off all email correspondance they have had with their wedding planner, because when they got to resort, they were quoted different prices and/or aspects of the wedding they had discussed and planned were incorrect.

We are staying at EDR for the rest of the week as our honeymoon (or weddingmoon I suppose). The plan is to go to Thailand in late 2013 or early 2014 as our "big" honeymoon.

My FI needs to get back to work right after our wedding, so we arent going until mid June.

What is everyone else doing for your honeymoon?

I've heard the same thing you did. I've already been printing emails off and putting them in a folder. Later I'll go through and highlight/mark the pages and items.

Hey AllieH, I too envy Stina's starfish sandals!! I found them online but can't justify spending around $120 for them right now. I found these sandals at Old Navy yesterday for $18. The starfish are a little smaller but I still really like them!!

We just steamed & folded the chair sashes I got from another BDW bride. Whew!!! I promptly put them into space bags and set them in my office/craft room/wedding collection room. If any EDR brides after my date want 100 orange organza chair sashes (and 4 orange pin tuck table runners), let me know. Would be happy to leave those behind with your name on them.

I also ordered the base for the invites, and our guest book (wedding mad libs!). checking things off the list...

how's the planning going for you guys? Stina - need any help with anything?? Your date is coming up soon!

That's totally the reason that I'm doing a Destination Wedding too... we live in MD and my family is spread out between NY, TN, GA, MA and NM... everyone would have to fly in... so why not fly somewhere nice?  The only people who are really put off by it are my friends and my FI's family.  But his part of the guest list is only 7 people, vs. my 70.  So it made sense... plus it made my MIL really happy when I told her that I'd let her throw a mini-reception in PA for her people who can't go.  Makes everyone happy.  We're going to just go to the courthouse here before we fly.  No ceremony, just paperwork.  At first that ruffled some feathers with family.  But the cost and the hoops you have to jump through just aren't worth it.  For me marriage isn't about the legality, but more about the vows you make.  When we explained that it made things better. Plus, the ceremony has to be in Spanish for it to be legal, and I thought that would take out some of the romance.

Our friends and family are spread as well and for everyone to fly to my hometown and stay for a couple of days, it would cost almost just as much as a DW for guests to attend!

At first my FI's family didnt seem too thrilled and I think at times they still arent, but now that we are getting closer, I think everyone is getting more excited.

We were going to just go to the courthouse as well, but decided to do a small "legal ceremony" a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately, my future father in law is extremely ill and may not be with us in May, so we wanted to include him in our getting married, along with my fiance's immediate family. At first I was afraid that it would take away from the wedding in Mexico, but I am very glad we did it early because I know it meant a lot to my fiance and his parents and sisters. After having the small ceremony, I know it will not take away from our big day in Mexico, but you couldnt have convinced me that it wouldnt before hand.
