Does anyone know if there is a tax on reception food, DJ, centerpieces, etc? If so, do you know what it is?

 

I was just looking over our budget and we are right on target for where we want to be... but now I am panicking that I didn't factor in any tax on items/events in Mexico!!!! oops.gif

Most likely your candles won't stay lit unless they are in a big candle holder or something. The wind just blows them out, even at Tucannes which is away from the beach and wind our tealights didn't stand a chance!

We haven't decided what we're doing with regards to the dinner. We're both ok with just doing dinner reservations at the restaurant and going super low key. 

 

I like the floating candle idea too - but will they stay lit? or is it the LED lights that will float? I was thinking about getting some tea light candle holders and the little LED "candles" that flicker for decorations, then throwing some shells, starfish, etc. for the tables. 

 

For the ceremony, I am thinking ribbons for the chairs, small chinese lantern for the aisles, and a few medium/large ones on the chuppa w/ the white fabric. And parasols (paper/chinese) - two of those. dang, even that's a lot of crap to haul to Mexico!

Tucannes looks amazing undecorated, which is what we did, because of the lush greenery and beautiful palapa and pool!  But I did see another bride hang round colourful paper lanterns from the ceiling of the palapa and it looked gorgeous.  I'm not sure how you would hang them since the palapa is so high, but maybe your WC can do it for you.  Every cocktail/private reception also comes with cocktail tables and some decor from resort at no extra cost. You can choose white linens or "Mexican" theme, which is what we had at our Donkey Cocktail Hour. We also had tiki torches at our reception entry which I never ordered or paid for!

All of my photos were taken in the dark, but maybe they can help you girls have a visual idea of the locations for private receptions. Our cocktail hour was supposed to be at Gazebo 55 with our ceremony, but due to rain it got moved. Be prepared to have a backup weather plan!!

 

Tucannes area with the huge palapa, gorgeous wooden pillars and I just had basic table linens with a rented aqua table runner and vase. (Awesome wait staff had the party going with a tequlia congo line!!)

You can see the pool on the left side and the reception tables and bar were under the palapa. The "dance floor" area had the BBQ buffet set up there when we had dinner.

We are having our rehearsal dinner at Toucanes and are having paper lanterns hung!

 

Our WC advised us to buy the lanterns in the states and bring them down with us because she said they were quite pricey in Mexico. Since they pack flat, I am not too worried about toting them down there. FYI, she told me I would need about 25-30 to stand out since the roof is so large and that there is a $150 fee for hanging the lanterns. I wasn't happy about the actual hanging of the lanterns costing more than the lanterns themselves and I asked if we could hang them ourselves, but she said a ladder is needed as the roof is quite tall and it would be a liability to the hotel if we hung them ourselves.

Are you by any chance taking your own chair sashes and table clothes? I am not sure what is included. I am assuming the basic white.

I planned on bring my own paper sacks and putting the battery operated tea lights vs $4 a pc.

 

What are some other things you Brides are bringing with you? My biggest fear is getting there and them telling me I have all these additional fees for set up. We plan on doing a lot of it on our own.

We are bringing down starfish hanging on ribbons to decorate the chairs lining the isle http://diy.weddingbee.com/topic/starfish-aisle-decor and a friend is going to get to ceremony site early to hang these on chairs. I also found some blue glass beads, which we are bringing down, that the same friend will be scattering on the cocktail party tables to add some color. We are renting all of the table clothes and centerpieces down there through Lomas. I'm not big on chair sashes and its obviously something my FI could care less about haha, so we are just getting the white chair covers for the reception, but opting for a tiffany blue colored table cloth. As I mentioned before, we are also bringing down paper lanterns for our rehearsal dinner at Tucanes, and I might bring additional starfish down to put on the tables at our rehearsal dinner.

 

The only other things we are bringing down are wedding programs, schedules, place cards and OOT bags.

You are amazing! What a nice offer! If you remember, would you take some pics of the Beach Bar? Our WC just recommended that bar to our guests as a place to go after our ceremony (as guests wait for the reception to begin). I've never seen it, so I'm curious what it's like. :)
