Hi ladies!

I just came across this forum.  I am getting married at El Dorado Royale on January 17, 2015.  I have booked my venues (Mexican Kiosk and Tuccanes Bar for the reception).  Does anyone have any suggestions on the appetizers (soup, salad) and dessert options for the private dinner reception?  We chose our two main entrees for people to choose from, but none of the starter or dessert options are really standing out to me.

As far as hair appointments go, how many hours before your wedding are you scheduling these?  I will be getting my hair done, along with 4-5 bridesmaids and don't want to run short on time.  I'm still trying to decide if the makeup is worth it...I've never had good luck when getting my makeup done. :(

Thanks!!!

Elaine

Hi Elaine - congrats on booking your wedding at EDR!!

Did you do the pick & choose dinner? We did that, and ran into the same thing you did - none of the desserts or appetizer options on the dinner menu sounded good to us. We asked them if we could choose starter & dessert from the lunch menu, and they let us substitute. We did the spicy sea scallops w/ crispy won ton for the starter, and the tres leeches for dessert. they were AWESOME.

so if you see something on another menu that's you'd like, just ask if you can substitute!

as for the hair...plan EXTRA TIME. if they suggest a noon hair appointment for a 3:30pm wedding, back it up 1-2 hours AT LEAST. I'd plan about 90 minutes for bridal hair, and maybe 60 for your maids. don't forget to figure in time for you to eat lunch/snack before the ceremony too - you'll need the fuel for the rest of the night!

Thanks @@AllieH

I never thought of asking to substitute.  I just looked at the lunch options for appetizers and desserts and like those a lot better!

Thanks for the advice!

Hello all,

I have another question.  We are doing the private reception that includes desserts.  We are also having a wedding cake.  For those that have done a private dinner with a cake before, do you end up having a lot left over since there are desserts also included in the meal price?  I just don't want to buy a large cake and have only half the people eat it.

Thanks!

YES. almost no one ate our cupcakes. there were so many left, and we couldn't box them up to send with folks to their rooms (of course most of our guests were trashed by the end of the reception...). My advice is don't spend the $$ for a huge cake since you're already getting dessert. Do a small cutting cake and call it a day. I think they have one that's like $35 and perfect size.

We were wondering the same thing about people not eating the cake with a dessert, so I had my wedding coordinator sub the dessert for an appetizer and they didn't seem to have an issue with that

Our cake was pricey! $750 - so these people better eat it! lol

Hi Ladies!!!

I got married at EDR on May 23, 2014…it was amazing(food, service, staff)!! I will plan to write an in depth review in a week or so when I have a little more time, but I wanted to let anyone know they are welcome to PM me with any questions! Also, a huge thanks to @@AllieH you were so helpful to my planning process!

A few things as you are planning your day that the WC didn't tell me, little things though, not a huge deal or I just though might be helpful.

1) If you have photographers, you have to pay for their meals(we just paid for the same meal we ordered and when I told Sarani, she thanked me and said the sandwiches were always mushy :/)

2) In the Spa, they will bring you fruit or you can bring a fruit plate in…they have champagne on request and water & coffee in the actual Spa area.**Make sure to make time to eat!

3) Make sure you clarify what type of makeup(regular or airbrush) I thought I paid for airbrush and it was an additional amount(worth it).

4) DJ AllMusic was great…but make sure to mark songs you want played the whole way through(he stopped shout at the softer part?) and songs that are must plays---he kept the party going!

5) If you get sweaty like I do, bring a little battery operated fan(got mine off amazon for like 10 bucks) it does wonders under the dress during dinner ;)

6) They say you can't get a cart for your bridesmaids/moms… so on the way back from the spa to our room, I just asked the guy driving  to pick them up and he said yes, I gave him a 5---he came back with an empty cart at the time I asked and knocked on the door--so worth it!

7) Honestly I stressed about decor a little before…not much is really needed, everything is so pretty! I just had centerpieces, maracas at each setting and table numbers, and some candle bags around pool(Tucanes)…all you need!

8)We had to move our Rehearsal party from white gazebo to Salon Dorado, beautiful, and nice and cool, wished I had planned it there in the first place!(gave a nice change of scenery for the guests and they did the donkey bar out front with tiki torches and the BBQ out back as well as the fire show(so cool!) )

OKay, back to work I go…but Please PM with any questions, happy to Help!!! I'll post some pictures tonight too!

Happy Planning!!! Wish I could go back already!!
