Sand Ceremony

Hello Ladies

I ordered my Sand Ceremony frame from "The Forever Frame" https://foreverframe.com/ for our Oct 2012 wedding.

Cost: engraving, frame, 4 lbs of sand=~$100 USD (I had extra sand so could have ordered less)

Shipping to Canada from States=~$50  USD

Sand colours: as of October 2012 the colours on the webpage are exact matches to David's Brial colours

Seller: This is sold by a family business and the seller Elaine Kendall was extremely helpful on email.

Was it worth the price vs. making on own? Yes for us it was. The "keeper plate" (plastic 3 sides of a square shaped that locks in and keeps sand from moving) kept it from mixing on the long flight home. If you are crafty you may be able to make your own but we didn't have the time or skills. I also liked that you can change the photo easily without re-doing the sand.

Ceremony Script: Here is the sand cereony script the JP read. We got the original script from BDW and Dreams and edited it heavily.

JP ceremony first, then vows

[sand ceremony set up on table Bride and Groom]

"Bride and Groom, you have just sealed your relationship by giving and receiving of rings and have committed here today to share the rest of your lives together.

To symbolize this union and the importance of the individuals within the marriage, two separate colours of sand will be combined. Each one holds its own unique beauty, strength, and character. They can stand on their own and can be whole, without need of anything else. However when these two are blended together they create and entirely new and extraordinarily more intricate entity. Each grain of sand brings to the mixture a lasting beauty that forever enriches the combination. Please pour the sand into this common vessel to symbolize the union of your two lives.

[begin pouring sand (frame pre-filled), Groom first, then Bride, layering, then together while JP reads text below]

Although you will be sharing one life, never forget that you are two separate people. Cherish and affirm your differences. Love each other. Keep your commitment primary. Together you will laugh and cry, be sick and well, be happy and angry, share and grow.

Beth and Dan, just as these grains of sand can never be separated and poured again into the individual container, so will your marriage be a molding of two individual personalities, bonded together forming one heart, onelife, and one family.

[signing of symbolic license]

So I was on the fence about doing a sand ceremony and FI voted no. Is it weird if we still purchase a shadow box kit and colored sand and make one after the fact with a nice photo of us from the wedding just as a keepsake? I think FI likes the idea, but I noted in another post that he hates attention and basically wants everything as short as possible to get the focus of him/us. So he just doesn't want to be up there longer than it takes to say our vows. It's weird-- he's a Leo and that is so un-Leo like! Haha.

Would it be possible to do your sand ceremony at the reception on the table next to the cake before or after cake cutting? That way your ceremony is shorter and you still have professional photos of the ceremony while your photographer is there and you are in your wedding clothes.
