Michelle2011....All this with TC must be totally frustrating for you is there nobody higher up that you could get some info from and try and push them a little bit. Hopefully you will get it all sorted and confirmed soon though will keep my fingers crossed for you xx

 

I have thought about having my hen party at Alton Towers for the day and staying in the hotel over night and having a spa day the following day before leaving for home, will probably go for a meal and drinks on another night though ;-)

I have to say compared to issues other people have had - both our families have been fine - we have only had one time when the doo daa hit the fan. When FIs young sister said she was pregnant; which meant the baby would be just 3 months old when we go; she made all the plans to bring the baby; without asking us and it had a knock on effect with the rooms we had booked etc. We weighed up the pros and cons of the baby coming but in the end had to say the baby couldnt come for a number of reasons but mainly; the heat; the flight; the hotel environment and the consideration of the other travelling guests. What if the baby became ill etc etc. At first it caused some friction but now she is fine and totally understands why we had to make that hard decision. She is still coming but her partner will be staying at home with the baby when it arrives (he wasnt coming originally anyway). I felt bad about our decision but would've felt awful if the baby had become ill due to the heat etc. But we have said if she needs to get home quickly we will pay on our credit card to get her home - her mum will be there as well which is another bonus. It was really hard for all of us - and it made me realise just because we are getting married, everyone elses lives dont go on hold.

Everyone seemed fine as we booked exactly a year to when the final balance is due so they all worked out they needed to save £100 per month per person and seemed fine with it; as both sets of families go away on holiday each year anyway.

I feel v lucky as i know other people have had real issues - unfortunately this is the downside to planning a DW!

Even though you get a date confirmed back - apparently they are only 'in a book awaiting confirmation' - the mexican authourities dont confirm their attendance until 6 months beforehand ie; the hotels get them booked in their books to they dont double book; but they cant approach those carrying out the ceremony until 6 months before the wedding date. RIU told me this as well when i contacted some hotels direct. I booked mine through Thomson just incase our flights are cancelled etc as we are travelling in Janaury so if we have a winter like we did this year I dont lose my wedding money.

Obviously i am only reiterating what i have been told (FIs best mates partner works for Thomson) - but your hotel may work differently. xx

ladies - have you booked your flights/hotels but are awaiting a wedding date by your TA's? if so why don't you bypass your TA's and get a date direct? I used my TA just for the bookings of flights/hotels and i've spoken to the hotel direct for the rest. i booked June 2009 for a July 2010 wedding and got my dates immediately doing it that way.

 

as for the hen do's, i've had leeds and Ibiza is next weekend (eeeek!) then i've got one with work at a bar, and one with everyone at a mexican restaurant. and then once we're in mexico one there at Coco Bongos

 

Josietoms - that must of been a hard decision to make re the baby. is your hotel an adult only resort then? why can't a newborn travel with you?

I guess all hotels work differently - unfortunately my hotel wont confirm until 6 months before - its the same for all the girls who are booked at my chosen hotel.

Our hotel isnt adult only; but they are not really geared up for newborns; ie; they couldnt 100% guarantee the cot and FIs sister would have had to book a seperate room to provide the cot space as she was already in a room for 3 people which she couldnt afford to do. Cause of the babies age when we travel you cant purchase a seat for the baby on the flight; unless you pay full adult price; as it is not classed as even a child; so it would've had to sit on someones lap for the whole duration. Which FIs sister was concerned about - if we were going somewhere in Europe it wouldnt have been a problem. There were so many things adding up like FIs sister was worried about the heat and that she would be missing out on things ie; couldnt stay out late with the rest of us; it became a mutal decision in the end really between us and FIs sister - we didnt expect her to come but she is adamant she is coming - though in my heart i think once we get nearer the time and she has had the baby she probably wont come. The downside of our DW so far as it would have been nice to have the newest family member there but it was proving very difficult and FIs was saying if her baby became ill whilst that far away from home; he wouldnt want to get married as he would be so worried about his new niece / nephew. It was hard but we were going round in circles :-( xx
(please dont think we are heartless people it was done with all the best intentions FIs sister now genuinely thinks we all made the right decision).

I just got married at moon palace last week, and am on my honeymoon at Le Blanc just now. Don't know if I spoke to any of you on YouandYourWedding.co.uk - I haven't went back on since the site got revamped...don't like the layout - not very user friendly. Anyway, the reason I'm posting is there had been alot of chat about the paperwork to take with you. I booked the wedding direct with moon palace, who confirmed for me we didn't need our birth certs with apostilles...however people who booked through travel agents were told for all weddings in mexico the apostille was required. This is completely false...it is site specific, as is the number of days you need to be on resort before getting married.

 

I didn't have the apostille and got married no bother...saved ourselves around £200+ - I did bring this up on the old YYW forum, a few people weren't happy with it and a bit skeptic, rightly so since they're TA's were telling them differently. But I'm just wanting to make sure future brides know this, and look into their sites specific - it could save you a few pennies...maybe to spend on shoes! heehee

I also got my date confirmed straight away, although I'm another moon palace bride....defo worth looking into...I couldn't handle not knowing right away! Especially since some of our guests arrived onsite the week before us..if our date hadn't been confirmed, these people might have missed our wedding by days or whatever.

The downside of not going with a TA is the luggage allowance...if you book your wedding through a TA, you get an extra suitcase for WEDDING ITEMS ONLY...however, I pestered thomas cook CONSTANTLY and got the extra suitcase added to my allowance....although, in the end we didn't use it!ha Be warned though, the pestering has to be constant if your with thomas cook, customer service is DREADFUL...I was kept on hold one day in work for 1 hour 50mins before getting through to an operator for all of 10-15mins!! Cost us a fortune!!

We upgraded our flights to premium class, meaning we got 30kg of luggage allowance instead of the standard 15kg/20kg....although it costs extra, I'd recommend people do this...the flight is alot more comfortable, you get unlimited drinks on the flight, and we did take around 26kg each!! The good thing about premium aswell, was as we had soo many of our guests up in the standard class seats, we could order drinks for them, and take them up! Of course the stewards didn't know this, but hey, we tried to get our moneys worth!ha

Hi, I know what your saying about costs, but honestly, I'll NEVER fly with TC again after this holiday...we booked our flights and accommodation seperately, but the problems we've had with TC have been unbelievable...even at the airport it was a complete JOKE!! We flew long haul with First Choice last year and will do so for future long hauls...they were fab....the inflight facilities were fantastic and we were in the standard class...we flew to Mexico Premier class and the inflight facilities were no where near as good as the standard class First Choice offered!!
When it comes to insurance, you can get travel insurance that covers independant travellers...costs a wee bit more, but worth every penny.

Something some people don't realise as well, is travel agents don't have access to all room options hotels have...for example, booking through a TA for moon palace, you get the option of a king bed or 2x double beds....moon palace has 3 sections....Thomas Cook only have insurance for guests to stay at the Sunrise side....we booked indepedently and got a concierge room at the Nicuz side just next to the new side, Moon Grand. We do plan on going back to moon palace, and when we do, will 100% book independantly again.

It does cost more, but its your wedding/honeymoon...and if your like us, you want it to be perfect...with no regrets.

Hope i didn't go on too much there...just trying to spread my thoughts as an old wifey now!lol
