KittenHeart's (Amy) MASSIVE Planning Thread!

Recommended Posts

For décor we decided on natural colored paper lanterns and white string lights. I bought 30 paper lanterns in 3 different sizes from Paper Lanterns, Chopsticks, Japanese Kimono, Chinese Dresses, Asian Wedding Favors

I searched to figure out how to light up the lanterns without having to buy big expensive cumbersome lights and plug them in. I stumbled across this site and we bought all the components and FI put them together. He came up with the brilliant plan to set them all up and clamp them together but put a tab of clear plastic in between the battery and the LED light so that when ready to use you just pull the tab and light them up. There are small hooks in each lantern and he used monofilament wire to make a loop and hang the “throwie” in the lantern!

Those aren’t the string lights we’re using; I ordered frosted white string lights on a white wire from Save on Crafts, Wedding Supplies, Flowers, Tulle, Lights, Decorations & Discount Craft Supplies Save-on-crafts

For placecard holders I wanted to do something along the line of my theme so I ended up actually finding birds’ nests which I bought from: Daisy Days - Wedding Invitations, Accessories, Favors & Gifts

I then wanted to somehow incorporate the Italian tradition (I’m half Italian) of the 5 Jordan per guest that represent wishes for Health, Wealth, Happiness, Longevity, and Fertility

I bought mint chocolate Jordan Almonds since they look like birds eggs and are my colors and little organza bags for them:

At the last second I opted out of DIYing the escort/placecards due to time. I found Hornbill Hill Design Studio by hornbillhill on Etsy and Jennifer was wonderful and professional to work with. The pictures don’t even do it justice; these are so pro looking and better than I could have asked for:

I am having a Manzanita branch “tree” since I love them. I collect vintage bird themed playing cards, punched a hole in them and hung them from the branch. I am not bringing the branch in the photo with me, customs doesn’t allow it so I had to rent one.

I have gathered up pictures of my and FI’s family’s wedding photos and framed them to decorate the guest book table:

I kept putting off getting a cake cutter and knife set. Finally the other day it dawned on me that I recently received a full set or 2 of silver from my grandmother. I bought some silver polish and had FI get to work on polishing it up and it’s like brand new! I tied ribbon around it and this is what we’re using (it’s so shiny the glare from the flash kept messing up the photo so sorry for the bad pic)

As for table numbers I wanted to do something a little different. I’ve been collecting vintage playing cards that have birds on them and got lucky with getting 2 of each. These will be my table “numbers”

I bought a chalkboard from Framed Mirrors and Chalkboards Handmade by Ashley by RowansRoom and plan to write some clever saying about finding your nest or something, I’m still not sure (and open to suggestions) FI was messing around with it when I was taking my photos  Click the image to open in full size.

I bought these signs to hang from our chairs at the reception:

I also made Just in Case kits with First Aid kits I got from Target for $1 each. I added 2 packets of Emergen-C & 2 packets of Emergency and individual packets of B1 vitamins which is the vitamin that you become deficient in when you drink and causes a hangover. FI and I made the sticker we put on top of the kits

Instead of Spanish for Dummies, I decided on Cocktails for Dummie which I found in the Target $1 section for 50% off! The group I’m going with is mostly friends and more of a party group and they are always trying to come up with a new drink or fun shot so I thought this would be more appropriate:

I also had OOT bag tags made by on Hornbill Hill Design Studio by hornbillhill on Etsy

She also made me escort & place cards but they didn’t photograph right for some reason.

Created and printed:

I downloaded and printed this door hanger for me while I’m getting ready Click the image to open in full size.

I also downloaded these Tree Programs from marthastewart.com. On the front is says “What tree did you fall from?” Then you match up your birthday to the tree and it reads you like a little horoscope. It has nothing to do with anything except that it’s something to do while people are seated for the ceremony. I punched a hole through the back side and put black ribbon through to hang from chairs Click the image to open in full size.

We made our own menu’s using Microsoft Publisher; it was very easy to use:

We also created a sign for our signature drink, which I spent an evening with some of my girls making 3 different recipe options and doing lots of taste tests to decide. We ended up with a Sparkling White “Swangria” which I know, it’s cheesy but it cracks me up since we’re having a bird theme:

I also made postcards at VistaPrint to have everyone fill out at the farewell brunch the following morning noting down advice or their favorite moment of the trip and then I’ll have my MOH stick these in the mail once a week so we can continue to be reminded of our day. I got this idea from someone else on the forum, I don’t remember who but it’s brilliant!

Our BM created our wedding day Timeline that we printed out on cardstock and put in the OOT bags:
