Unfortunately there is no way around not paying for food. You can opt to not have an open bar and chose to have the buffet meal which is cheaper than the plated options. At the end of the day the open bar option is only $10 per person. I was willing to pay this for my guests so they would not have to walk a mile to get a drink. Depending on the location you chose, there are not many bars around and you may be limited for options. You can also chose to make your own centerpieces or use the bridemaids bouquets as centerpieces.

If you book the mexican resturant or the steakhouse resturant or the terraces of these resturants. Food is included in the venu fee. But Venue fee is about 1200 for a 6 pm -11 pm seating. So if you have another  recpetion with a cheaper venue fee, it may work out to around the same.

If you have a small group, and do a semi-private recpetion, its included. But if you want a private reception, you'll have to pay extra for venue booking fees. depending on which reception place you book, some include the price of food and wine/beer (which I hear is horrible) with the venue fee. Some recpetion locations, you have to pay extra for food.

We got engaged in August 2012 and in November 2012 we took a trip down to the Riu to check the resort out. Jatziri is our WC and she was super nice and helpful. As of right now we plan to rent out the entire mexican resturant since we have over 70 friends and Family coming down with us, However, I have to say I am finding myself second questioning at times and find myself considering the Baja Norte.... Its a nice location as well and has a great view. My first/ origianl choose was the steak house terrace and beach combined but didnt love how low the steakhouse terrace ceiling is.

I will definitley agree with RNtoBe about the wine. When I was there in November the wine was absolutely terrible. It makes me sad that they havent changed it yet- i spoke with the WC about the wine ( I LOVE my Wine LOL ) and she said they were in a contact they werent able to get out of but if I re-call correctly she said the contact was only for a year.... Anyways across the street is a wine and liquor store, and we plan on buying several cases for the night of the wedding. Jatziri said that would be fine.

RNtoBe, how was the process with everything... flowers? dj? Hair & makeup? Any words of wisedom :) ?

Awesome, I am defintely going to go across the street and pick up some decent wine for the table :)

Okay, gotcha. The package I'm getting says it includes a semi-private dinner at one of the restaurants. There are only going to be 6 of us so I don't need to rent out a large area. We are planning to have our own music and toasts at the table. Is that something we can do at one of the restaurant locations? Its so hard planning without seeing it!
