 I am a 2012 bride but i need some help getting started, we have decided on the Rui Palace in Punta Cana. And we are hoping for june or early july. My problem is how do you get started who do we contact? and are they trustworthy and reliable? There is so much work to do and its hard to know where to start. If anyone can help that would be great.

Congratulations!!! First step is to pick your place(which you have) and the date.

Contact a travel agent to get the rates & info about group discounts. Each resort has their own policies, so you may need to do room blocks to receive group rates.. Just an FYI air fare is not out yet so you will have to wait for those rates.

Great Thank you for the tips they will definitely help us start.. My next question is we have been reading about the legal stuff and it seems like a pain to get a marriage license down there is this true? we had an idea of getting our certificate here, and getting married quietly in the court house and not telling our family just to avoid the headache of dealing with all the legal mumble jumbo

Forgot to include TA info. I would recommend using one of the TAs from this site. I am using Teresa & she has been excellent and so helpful with everything. You can fill out info from here and Tammy (host) will send your information to one of her agents. (this is what I did)

As for the legal stuff, for Mexico we have to be at our resort 3 days prior to the wedding and also have to get our blood taken from a doctor at the resort(which is an extra $200 for both of us).  I am not too sure about the license and how it works yet. We originally were going to have a legal ceremony in Mexico but now my FI & I are debating just going to the court house before hand & keeping it quiet!

It maybe just easier!

So, I just realized that I never subscribed to this thread.  I remember seeing it and I thought I sent everyone a shout out but I don't see that I ever did.  Anyway, I'm also a 2012 bride getting married May 5, 2012.  Yay!  It feels like I've been planning F-O-R-E-V-E-R!  In reality, I kind of have.  Ha!  I kind of took a little break from planning but I think it's time to get on the ball with things again.

You should contact my TA! Her name is Linda and she has been doing destination weddings for 30-ish years! She is the manager at Year Round Travel Inc. She's fabulous and found me the most amazing rates. She works out of the Toronto area so she'd be able to help you.
