La Zebra Tulum and wedding planner...

Hello everyone!!

 

We are just engaged and I'm starting to see prices and options that I have for my wedding in the riviera maya!

 

I'm already in contact with a wedding planner, she told us she charges 800 USD for her services, I think it is a bit expensive... We want a very simple wedding, and we will only be 10 persons...

And especially, I want a wedding coordinator for all the legal stuff, for finding a french translator, but I'm in contact with the cabana I want, I will find my photographers etc...

What do you think?

 

I'm in contact with the "La Zebra" in Tulum, and it seems to be a wonderful and quiet place... Does anyone use this place for their wedding? I'm a bit worries concerning the dishes... We've been in riviera maya before and we went to the restaurant "la cueva del chango" and it was amazing, I don't know if the la Zebra would have the same quality...

 

So, I'm confused... Do I use la Zebra or do I use la cueva del chango for the reception and I let the wedding planner find a quiet place elsewhere for the ceremony?

I am going to get married at La Zebra in about 2 weeks. I started planning the wedding less than 2 months ago at La Zebra (was originally going to get married at the resort). I have been working with Marion at Destination Weddings Tulum and the funny thing is when we spoke on the phone the other day, I discovered she is from France!! (where I see you are from as well?) She has been a pleasure to work with so far. I cannot say what La Zebra is like exactly as I have never been in person, but Marion reassured it me it is perfect for an intimate wedding (we have a group of 21).

Oh great!! Check on trip advisor, you will see marvelous pictures of La Zebra!! I think it is a good choice! If I were you, I will stay the night in one of their cabanas... You will waking up watching the sea just in front of you for your first morning as a married woman!!

do you want to get legally married in Mexico, or will you get married at the townhall in France before leaving ?

If you want to get legally married in Mexico, you will need to contact the French consulate in Mexico to have it recorded on the French Etat Civil. It looks like in Mexico you don't have to publish the bans (I had to in Houston). See the info here :

Yes I would like to be legally married in Mexico! Even if it seems more simple than in the Dominican republic (it was our first choice) it is a real headache! That's why I thing a wedding planner will be mandatory in my case... Thanks for the link !

Hi Maili,

Congrats on your upcoming wedding and your plan for a Tulum wedding. I was married in Tulum a year ago and am headed there this weekend to coordinate another one. La Zebra has a pretty steep site fee, but it is reasonable since they have a strong restaurant business.

 

If you are looking at having a legal ceremony I would say that $800 is a very reasonable coordinator fee. Getting a legal ceremony itself will be around $1000 for all of the court/lab/translation fees. There's a lot of legwork to be done, regardless of how many guests you have. If you get the whole event coordinated on top of that, you are really getting a bargain.

Check out Tulum Wedding by Destination Weddings Tulum and Tulum Weddings - Offering full destination wedding planning service in Tulum for lots of pics for weddings at La Zebra. Gwen and Marion who run destination weddings tulum are both French so you will have an easy time communicating with them. $800 sounds pretty reasonable for coordination. It may be $600-$700 for your smaller party though.

 

I looked into La Zebra when I was choosing a wedding location and I think their site fee is $1500 but we have a lot more guests than you so it might be less for less people. If you talk to Gwen, she will let you know which places have site fees and what is best for your size wedding.

@@maili Good luck on your planning, I have a suggestion for you, you do not really need to do a legal ceremony in Mexico, It is not an obligation, you can do a representative wedding and you may save money and administrative paperwork and time.

 

Also I do strongly recommend you that the minister speaks your local lenguaje and he/she is a great minister so she/he makes you feel the emotional in the moments of getting married not just a simple and bored ceremony, this is important for pictures, really important!!! this does not happen in a legal ceremony, because it need to be in spanish, legally, and the translation just makes it senseless from my point
