Fast Food Addiction

Does anyone else out there have this problem, it is killing my diet. I used to live in the mountains (Colorado), and I never ate the stuff, I hated it. But I moved to the city to go back to school and started eating it on a regular basis. I have gained so much weight from it, and now I am trying so hard to stop eating that stuff because I want to look fabulous for my wedding, but I am having the hardest time. I had an easier time giving up cigarettes than I am giving up fast food. Is anyone else out there struggling with a Fast food addiction, maybe we could start a support group. lol

I think a lot of people struggle with eating fast food too often because it is convenient. One thing that keeps me away from fast food places is looking at their nutritional info and seeing just how much fat and how many calories are in their foods. Doing that can be a real eye opener.

If convenience is what you are looking for, try looking for the steamfresh type meals in the frozen food section of the grocery store. They are so much better for you and only take a few minutes to heat.

I find my struggle is not so much because it's fast but because it's tasty! Fast food is the ultimate comfort food! Some people would disagree and say that fresh, expensive ingredients are tastier but I guess I have cheap tastebuds. Lol!!

It's not cheap tastebuds. It's actually what the fast food industry puts in the fast foods to make you addicted taste-wise -or other - so it makes a whole lot of sense. The first things are - sugar, high fat, and artificial flavouring. It's been studied to make you addicted...

Like any addiction I guess it means you have to go through "rehab" of your taste buds - and withdrawal and all before you can actually get rid of it sad.gif

There are actually a whole lot of articles now about fast food adiction. See for instance :

There is a book called Fast Food Nation that I had to read in college that discusses the additives that they put in food to make you crave more fast food. For instance, there is something put in many fast food french fries that makes you want a hamburger...

I used to be addicted to all fast food, but now I only have a few I struggle with. I think the things that helped me the most was that I started making the same fast foods I liked at home and I waiting out my cravings. I have my own taco (I am still obsessed with Taco Bell), burger, pizza recipes at home that I always make first before I allow myself to buy fast food. I also wait at least 24 hours before I give into a craving. I am a very emotional eater and I get a ton of cravings all the time and a lot of them come and go. Waiting a day before I indulge works great for me since once I wait 24hrs the craving is usually gone.
