Yes. I am going to have them wrap the string around the back pole/stick/wood piece and secure with the paperclip.

Betty, thanks for the inspiration. Here is my version. I have them doubled over the broomstick so they will be twice as long. I'll probably make more but I used all my orchids.

 

I used orchids from dollar tree (and some from my moms outings to thrift stores), only one strand of real touch and fishing/monofilament line...

I was using this same pic as inspiration - I LOVE it! And it's something that won't add a lot of weight to our luggage either (I don't think?)

That's about the same reaction I got...but you're right...I think that when they see the end result they will appreciate it more. At least I HOPE they do!!
