Reception or Not?

we have about 14 guests and we are having dinner together at one of the restaurants that evening and will have the wedding cake brought out there. Afterwards, we will go to a club or show or both to celebrate, whatever everyone wants to do is fine. We are also very low key about all of this. the reason *we* chose a resort wedding was that we wanted to spend money on a vacation, not a wedding. So we are trying to stay as close to that ideal as possible

There are about 16 people joining us in Jamaica for our wedding, so I am doing the reception dinner that comes with the package and then we can all change and go to the night club at the resort for dancing. Didn't see the point in paying for a full blown reception for a small group.

If you don't mind me asking, how many people did you invite?
I was worried I would go over the 20 ppl limit in one of the resort packages for a cocktail hour and reception . . .
We're inviting about 50 people and expect about 30 to show. . . We don't really know yet.
We will be having a reception, especially since a set up is provided in the package price. . .

Our wedding is at 5pm. I figured while we do the pictures and such the guests can go to any of the bars and have a drink or two, then we go to dinner (we have a separate restaurant set up for the wedding group). I was thinking of passing up the cocktail & hors d'ourves hour and putting the money towards renting a stereo system and doing a mini reception party after dinner. We'll keep the restaurant for a few extra hours and dance and have drinks for a bit. After that ppl can go to resort disco or we can migrate somewhere else to party!

We are getting married at 1pm and then having a mini reception/toast on the beach, along with pictures....Its 1.5hrs altogether. We are having dinner around 530 and then have a private reception on the beach gazebo from 730-10. I figure its my night and I wanna party!! Its only an extra $550 for the beach gazebo and dj....totally worth it!!

If I can give any advice, I'd say to remember that this is YOUR wedding, no one else's, and we all have different opinions of what the perfect wedding is. If you want low-key, then stick with that. Do what works for you. I used to feel intimidated on here because I felt that I was the ONLY one not doing a private reception and my wedding was sooo small compared to most people on here. I did my wedding how I wanted it and it was a blast!! We ate at one of the restaurants and then "winged" the rest of the night. DH and I are not the formal type in any respect and didn't want that. Just remember, whatever you decide to do doesn't have to meet anyone's approval but your own

I think it's up to what the both of you feel like doing and what your budget is. We are going to dinner at a restaurant and may hit a club with our friends afterwards. We also chose not to have an at home reception.

I agree - it's up to you both - whatever makes you happy. We're doing a reception, but we also estimate that we'll have at least 60 people. We're not doing an AHR, although we're having a legal ceremony at home with a lunch/dinner for immediate family before we leave.
