Should bridesmaids expect the bride/ groom to pay for thier dress?

Traditionally, the BMs pay for their own dresses. However, I bought the dresses for my BMs because I found them for $50 each and because I'm expecting them to spend so much money to go to the wedding.

I have been in a couple wedding parties as a BM. One was a DW that cost me over $2000 to attend and in both weddings I paid for my own dress (I didn't pick either dress and I don't think I will wear either one again). For my wedding party the girls are all paying for their own dresses but I'm keeping the price around $40. I will buy the dress for my junior bridesmaid because her parents have done sooo much for me including buying my wedding dress! I will buy the girls their jewelry as a gift.

When I was a bridesmaid, I NEVER expected the bride to pay for my dress...

 

I always assumed when I said ,"Yes, I will be in your wedding" that it was going to cost me quite a bit of money (to be in a bridal party, YOU are going pay for a LOT!)
