Thanks Punkie! Great idea about gluing Panel 3 onto Panel 4!  I've been wanting to do this as well and good to know how much sand I will need to get now.

That gave me more room for sand and now you will be able to see the sand from the back as well without the frosted panel. I personally liked the look of this much more. Also I don't have to worry about trying to get the sand into such a tiny slot or it pouring into any of the other slots.

To clarify panel 1 can slide in and out and I can attach/change the picture that is stuck to the outside of panel 2. Panel 2 is glued in slot 2. Skipped a panel for slot 3. Glued panel 3 into the 4th/outside slot. (hope that makes sense)

I bought the 28oz(780g) bag of sand from Michaels. With that extra panel taken out that 1 bag filled it almost to the top. I'd say there was maybe an inch clearance from the top. So I'll buy my black sand and I'll have more than enough with the 2 bags. I'd say I probably will use 2/3 of each bag since I'm doing 2 colours. If you will be gluing the panels as they come then 1 bag would be more than enough for the frame. Hope this helps!

Thank you all SO SO SO much for this thread. I tried to look at the other ones on the forum, but this one was the most direct and easy to follow. The instructions are fantastic! Thanks so much!! For some reason, the instructions seemed much more difficult on other threads. lol Yay! Now if only I could find espresso wood instead of metal... Eh, I won't complain! At least it's the color I want!

Good luck ladies!

I would love to see a photo of the finished product.  If anyone has one, would you mind pasting in here so we can view?  I love the idea so much more than just a vase filled with sand.  Now for the hunt to find the frame.  I've got two kids who will also be participating so we will most likely have 4 similar colors so it's not tacky looking.

I seen this frame used in one of the bdw slideshows and it turns out beautifully. Thank you this thread helped me find where to buy it from. I was wondering what everyone was planning on using during the ceremony to pour the sand in the frame? In the slide show she used huge nautical shells. After some looking around I found that they where expensive. Just was wondering if anyone had different items or a good deal somewhere. Thanks

I purchased mine off of Amazon.com. Unfortunately, Linens 'n Things no longer carries it.  Unless it's on sale, you can get it for $25 with free super saver shipping on Amazon.  I searched and searched for a better price, but that's the best I could find.  We have yet to glue it all together, but that's definitely on the to-do list before April.

I got mine from sendaframe.com.  Came out to $31-32 including shipping.  This was the only place I could still find the espresso one since it was out of stock at amazon and linens n things.
