I couldnt find a good forum to put this under so I hope this works.

My problem is from the get-go I did NOT want to wear a veil because I did not want to in anyway, take away from the back of my dress. FI's mom was with me when I got my dress and found one that matched my dress and insisted on buying it. It was $150! So I almost feel like I have to wear it. Typically when I envision a bride I do see a veil. My mind has slowly changed and I believe I wanna wear a veil now. I just dont know if I have the right one! Ok, so they question is.. I'm going to do my hair to the side and I have long hair so it'll be down to about my boobs and curled (tried posting the picture but Photobucket is down for maintenance right now so I'll change this post as soon as its back up) and I have yet to see a picture of any bride with their hair to the side and a veil. Do you think this will look stupid? With the veil I have now I just cant imagine it looking good, but how do I buy a new one and face FI's mom the day of the wedding not wearing they veil she spent all that money on! Any advice will help!

I like midnight's idea of wearing your hair down and then changing it when you go to the reception.

As for the issue of hurting the FMIL's feelings.... if you REALLY don't like the veil, maybe try to explain that with what you'd like to do with your hair, makeup, etc... the veil doesn't fit in your vision. However, ask her to go with you to find one that does?

Just my two cents.

I don't think you should compromise what your vision is on your wedding day for someone else. I like Brandi's idea of explaining to her that what you want for your hairstyle doesn't work with that veil. Or maybe do a trial with a hairstylist...explain what you are looking for to them & you never know what they might be able to come up with!
