You only have to pay extra if you want a "private" reception. I had the same argument, but in the end, I am really glad I did the private reception. It made it more real or something. That time was dedicated to us and our families and friends without the intrusion of other guests. Not that guests are an intrusion or anything, but you know what i mean. I def recommend it depending on the number of guests that you have. We had about 25 guests, so at $75/each it was still under $2,000.

That makes sense. However, the point of us getting married in Jamaica is to get away from all the crazy costs that a normal wedding has! My brother is getting married next month and they spent a ton! I guess it will still be less than what they spent. We just want a nice, simple wedding!!

We had the same thought... how can they charge us for a reception when my guests have already paid for an "all inclusive" resort? However, we did decide to go with the private reception, and I feel certain we will be happy with our choice. Much to our surprise and excitement, we have about 50 guests coming to the wedding smile43.gif So to us, it's worth it to know that our guests can all be together at one time and place to celebrate with us. And even at $75 a person for the private reception... we are still paying a lot less than we would have for a hometown wedding in either Raleigh, NC or Atlanta, GA.

We are working to keep our costs as low as possible in every other area, so if you have any suggestions... please pass them along.

Hi Amber, I don't know if they have that available. I wasn't interested in a gazebo, so never looked into the options. There are some attachments here that should contain the options, but I don't recall off hand. You need 150 posts to open attachments.

Also, you listed your wedding date as 03/06/09, but that's in the past, did you mean 2010?

We did the private reception. We had appetizers and drinks, followed by salad, then dinner, then dessert. I highly recommend the baked Alaska (Jamaican style)... delicious. We had about 50 guests, so they allowed us to choose two dinner options and our guests could choose. We went with the beef tenderloin and the seafood option. Both were very good! Everything was excellent. We would make this choice again! We were very pleased!

We had the private reception as well. I don't recall the food options, but if you read my review you can get more information. Ours took place on the Venetian Terrace and it was BEAUTIFUL! We paid extra for the chinese lanterns to be strung up and I really think that made a huge difference.
